Yard locations
Seatrium's Singapore yards are listed at Admiralty, Benoi, Pioneer, Tuas and Tuas Boulevard; ST Engineering operates the Gul and Benoi yards.
Seatrium organises its business into oil and gas newbuilds and conversions, renewables and new energies, specialised shipbuilding, and repairs and upgrades, all based around Singapore. Tank work, repair and conversion create Zone 1 conditions on vessels. An explosion proof smartphone distributor in Singapore marine and shipyard sector would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Singapore marine and shipyard sector has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Singapore Marine. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The companies on site and the hazardous-area types a handset is likely to meet there.
Seatrium's Singapore yards are listed at Admiralty, Benoi, Pioneer, Tuas and Tuas Boulevard; ST Engineering operates the Gul and Benoi yards.
Seatrium describes itself as formed from the 2023 merger of Sembcorp Marine and Keppel Offshore & Marine, so older references to separate yards under those names are out of date.
Singapore sold 56.775 million tonnes of marine fuel in 2025, the largest bunkering volume of any port, so tanker, barge and fuel-transfer operations are a daily feature of its waters.
Seatrium's Tuas Boulevard Yard has a graving dock about 350 metres long and 66 metres wide, which can take very large tankers and floating production units.
Workplace safety in yards and on vessels falls under MOM's Workplace Safety and Health framework, and marine bunkering facilities are named among Singapore's common explosive-atmosphere locations.
Heat, humidity and heavy showers are constant, so shipyard crews and handheld devices face both corrosion and moisture ingress year round.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In Singapore marine and shipyard sector. On a vessel, explosion-proof is a casual term. Flameproof Ex d fits fixed fittings, but a handheld phone carried into a cargo tank or paint area depends on intrinsic safety. The IS-04Z1 is designed on that concept for such spaces, with certification in progress and yard rules still applying.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Singapore marine and shipyard sector. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.
Likely candidates are vessel tank and cargo spaces, repair and conversion work, paint and coating areas, offshore unit conversion. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Singapore marine and shipyard sector.
Fuel transfer between barges and ships can create temporary vapour zones around connections and vents, depending on the fuel. Port and operator procedures control ignition sources during transfer. Ask the barge operator or ship's officer what equipment may be used on deck.
Seatrium lists LNG and LPG carriers and floating production vessels among the vessels it repairs and converts at its Singapore yards. These ship types generally bring the strictest hazardous-area controls, so confirm yard and vessel rules with the project team.
No. Yards and vessel owners set their own device rules, and the yard list here is not exhaustive. A device accepted at one yard may still need separate agreement at another. Confirm requirements with the yard safety team where the work will happen.
