Hot, humid Gulf coast climate; outdoor equipment should cope with heat and salt air.
The Fateh oil field lies offshore of the Jebel Ali area of Dubai, linking the emirate's own oil operations to its industrial coast. Petrochemical and fuel-handling businesses in the free zone keep classified areas in use. An explosion proof smartphone distributor in Dubai industrial areas would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Dubai industrial areas has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Dubai Industrial. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

Jafza, the flagship free zone of DP World, describes itself as home to over 11,000 businesses, including 532+ petrochemical-sector companies, so site rules vary company by company.
Its zones include food and beverage, base-metal and transportation areas, warehouses and a conservation area, so hazards range from food-plant ammonia and dust to metal processing.
The wider urban area including Sharjah has around 5 million people and the Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman metropolitan area about 6 million, so labour and suppliers can be sourced across emirates.
It lies near Al Maktoum Airport along Emirates Road, so freight and visiting engineers can reach it without crossing central Dubai.
Port Rashid opened in 1972, Jebel Ali port in 1979 and the Jebel Ali Free Zone in 1985, so most of Dubai's heavy industry dates from the last five decades.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In Dubai industrial areas. Gas-fired power station fuel systems, oil storage terminals and chemical warehouses are not alike. Flameproof Ex d suits fixed equipment such as pump motors; a handheld phone relies on intrinsic safety. Because Dubai's classified areas are spread over varied sites, each operator decides what concept applies to its own premises.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Dubai industrial areas. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.
Likely candidates are petrochemical and fuel storage and handling, power and desalination plant fuel systems, smelter and metal-processing plant, industrial chemical warehousing. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Dubai industrial areas.
No. Dubai Industrial City is a separate 52 square km industrial park founded in 2004, near Al Maktoum Airport along Emirates Road. Jebel Ali has the port, free zone and power plants. Each has different tenants and site rules, so confirm which one your job is in.
Radio devices sold in the UAE normally need federal type approval from the regulator, with certificates typically renewed every three years and a valid supplier register. Check the current requirements with your importer, and then check the site operator's rules for hazardous areas.
No. Utilities and free-zone operators set their own approval rules, and the free zone hosts many companies, so site-by-site rules are the norm. Check with each operator, such as the utility, terminal or tenant, what evidence a phone needs before use in a classified area.
