Climate
Hot desert climate with summer highs around 41 degrees C; heavy rain can occur.
Fujairah lies on the only eastern seaboard of the UAE and is within 300 km of all the emirates, so equipment can be trucked in from Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Tank farms, jetties, manifolds and bunkering areas give Zone 1 classification, and the Habshan-Fujairah pipeline brings Abu Dhabi crude. An explosion proof mobile phone distributor in Fujairah oil terminals would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Fujairah oil terminals has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Fujairah Oil Terminal. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of the site and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
Hot desert climate with summer highs around 41 degrees C; heavy rain can occur.
The oil terminal can operate 9 main berths or 14 wing berths for vessels up to 200,000 dwt, plus 4 bunker barge berths and a VLCC jetty for vessels up to 330,000 dwt.
UAE handsets need type approval from the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, with certificates renewed every three years and a valid supplier register.
The southern breakwater berth is the common site for vessel repair and has a travel lift for maintenance, so ship-repair hot work can sit close to oil terminal activity.
The port is connected to the Etihad Rail network linking Ruwais, Ghuwaifat and Fujairah, and the rail in Fujairah is used to carry bulk containers and oil.
The Port of Fujairah is the largest port on the UAE's eastern seaboard and is described as the world's second largest bunkering hub, so marine fuel handling is constant.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In Fujairah oil terminals. At tank farms, marine jetties and manifold areas, explosion-proof is a common phrase for any Ex equipment. Flameproof Ex d suits fixed pumps, but a handheld phone used on a jetty would rely on intrinsic safety. The terminal operator decides which protection concept each area needs.
A distributor for Fujairah oil terminals would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.
Likely candidates are oil tank farms, marine loading jetties, pump and manifold areas, bunkering operations. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Fujairah oil terminals.
The southern breakwater berth is the port's vessel repair site with a travel lift, while the northern berth hosts the oil terminals. Hot work and repair activity therefore happen within the same port, so permit-to-work controls are important; follow each operator's procedures.
By sea through the port, by road within 300 km of all emirates, and by Etihad Rail, which links Fujairah with Ruwais and Ghuwaifat. Choose the route according to size and customs needs, and confirm access rules with the terminal operator.
Fujairah has a hot desert climate, with summer highs around 41 degrees C and occasional heavy rain. The IS-04Z1 is designed to IP68 for dust and water ingress and has a 4,000 mAh battery. Heat limits have not been published, so ask for the datasheet.
