Hot dry climate
Aswan has an extremely dry desert climate and very hot summers, so heat tolerance matters for devices.
Aswan lies on the east bank of the Nile just north of the Aswan Dam at the first cataract, which makes the river and dam the main reference points for access and logistics. Ammonia and nitrate handling and quarry blasting create classified or controlled areas. An explosion proof mobile phone distributor in Aswan would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Aswan has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Aswan. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
Who operates there and which kinds of classified area a handset would meet, from the SAMS site research.
Aswan has an extremely dry desert climate and very hot summers, so heat tolerance matters for devices.
The ammonia and urea plant, built by Tecnimont and Orascom, makes 1,200 tonnes of ammonia per day and 1,575 tonnes of urea per day.
Benban Solar Park, about 40 km north-west of Aswan, has 1.8 GW installed over 37.2 square km in 41 plots, connected through four new substations built by the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company.
Aswan's granite quarries supplied stone to many ancient monuments and are still operating today, so quarrying, blasting stores and heavy plant add a mining-type hazard profile near the city.
The Aswan High Dam was built across the Nile at Aswan between 1960 and 1970 to control flooding, store irrigation water and generate hydroelectricity, creating the Lake Nasser reservoir upstream.
Hydropower contributed 6% of Egypt's electricity in 2025 and wind and solar 7%, while fossil fuels still generated 87%, so Aswan's hydro is a small but visible part of the national mix.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In Aswan. In an ammonia and urea plant, explosion-proof is a loose phrase. Flameproof Ex d covers fixed equipment, while a handset depends on intrinsic safety. Ammonia is a gas with unusual properties, so the plant operator decides which protection concept and gas group apply in each area, not the phone supplier.
A distributor for Aswan would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.
Likely candidates are ammonia and urea production, nitric acid and ammonium nitrate handling (under construction), quarry explosives storage. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Aswan.
Equipment usually enters through a major Egyptian port or Cairo airport and then travels by road, rail or a domestic flight to Aswan. Allow time for customs clearance and for any radio-equipment approvals, and agree delivery and on-site storage with the site contact before shipping.
Mostly utility and industrial: the dam and hydroelectric stations, substations, fuel storage and distribution, and the granite quarries. Aswan is not a refinery city, so hazardous zones are limited and site specific. Ask each operator whether any classified areas apply to your task.
Yes. Aswan has an extremely dry desert climate with very hot summers, so heat tolerance and dust are practical concerns. Check the datasheet's operating temperature range, avoid direct sun and keep charging in a shaded safe area. Ask the site operator about local practice in the hottest months.
