Hungary: infrastructure
Four operating reactors built between 1982 and 1987 form the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, and nuclear is the main domestic energy source, with almost half of Hungary's energy imported as of 2024.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for Hungarian refinery units, polymer plants, pharmaceutical solvent areas and gas installations. The Matra power plant, the last coal electricity producer, supplied about 9% of Hungary's electricity in 2020 and was served by coal mines in Visonta and Bükkábrány, with a gas combined-cycle replacement planned. Distribution partners for Hungary are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Hungary has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Hungary. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

MOL is active in exploration and production, refining, distribution, petrochemicals, power generation, trading and retail, with operations in over 30 countries and 2,400 service stations in ten countries as of 2025.
MOL's Danube Refinery at Százhalombatta started up in 1965 and has a capacity of about 8.1 million tonnes a year, making it one of the largest refineries in Central and Eastern Europe.
Under ATEX, Category 3 equipment may be self-certified by the manufacturer with a technical dossier, while Category 1 and 2 usually involve a notified body, which affects what Hungarian buyers should ask for.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In Hungary. In Hungary explosion-proof is a common phrase, but refinery units, polymer plants and pharmaceutical solvent suites use different protection concepts. Flameproof Ex d suits some fixed equipment, while a handset moving between rooms is better served by intrinsic safety. The IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety for that reason.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Hungary. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.

Hungarian is the working language, and ATEX instructions are typically expected in the language of the destination country. Providing Hungarian instructions with the certificate pack often helps, though international operators may also accept English. Check with the site safety office.
Hungary is an EU member, so ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU applies to equipment and Directive 1999/92/EC to workplace zoning. Zone 1 and Zone 2 devices should carry CE and Ex markings with instructions in the local language. Operators usually add their own permit and registration rules.
ATEX is the usual reference in the EU, and Hungary applies it through national law. Some operators or international contractors also ask for IECEx. Ask the operator's HSE or explosion-protection lead which evidence they accept before ordering.
