Abu Dhabi is the home of ADNOC and the UAE's main oil and gas operations. ADNOC Gas runs the Habshan gas complex and Das Island, while ADNOC operates the Ruwais refinery, which can process up to 922,000 barrels a day, and Borouge runs polyolefin plants at Ruwais, all with classified areas. An Ex-proof smartphone distributor in Abu Dhabi emirate would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Abu Dhabi emirate has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Abu Dhabi. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The companies on site and the hazardous-area types a handset is likely to meet there.
Hot desert climate; outdoor work in summer needs heat-tolerant equipment and schedules.
The Habshan complex has five plants with 14 processing trains, and Ruwais combines a refinery, NGL fractionation and polyolefin production on one industrial site.
Khalifa Port's onshore area connects directly to the Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi, so customs, inspection and freight facilities sit next to manufacturers.
The city sits on an island less than 250 m from the mainland and is joined to it by the Maqta, Mussafah and Sheikh Zayed bridges, which shape road transfers to the industrial districts.
The UAE regulator has added advanced mobile location testing to mandatory cell phone tests and introduced a new compliance mark from 1 January 2023, so confirm handset labelling.
Mussafah, an industrial district south-west of the city and a special economic zone, has numerous factories and its own port, and hydrocarbon-intensive industries have been among its growth areas.
“Ex-proof” is shorthand for equipment carrying an explosion-protection marking (the Ex mark) that matches the area it enters. The marking states the protection concept, gas or dust group and temperature class, and it must be backed by a certificate issued by a recognised body, so a phone described as Ex-proof should come with a certificate number you can check.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to carry the marking II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. That is a target: certification is in progress, no certificate has been issued, and SAMS will publish the certificate numbers when they exist.
In Abu Dhabi emirate. A marking check across emirate-wide sites would ask for the zone, gas group and temperature class on each area's drawings. Hydrogen-rich or sour gas areas may call for IIC and careful temperature classes; the IS-04Z1 target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4, still in progress. Operators decide what suffices for each area.
A distributor for Abu Dhabi emirate would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. It becomes a marking only when the certificate is issued; until then it is a design target.
Likely candidates are gas processing trains, lng and gas processing on das island, refinery process units, ngl fractionation. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Abu Dhabi emirate.
Mostly not. The classified areas sit at the emirate's gas, refining and petrochemical complexes, many of them far from the city. The capital is where ADNOC, contractors and service companies are based, so buying and engineering happen here while hazardous-area work happens elsewhere.
From May to September it is extremely hot and humid, with July and August maximums above 40 C. Use a device with a stated operating temperature range, plan breaks in shade or vehicles, and ask the operator whether it sets its own limits for portable equipment.
Island and offshore sites such as Das Island are reached by air and sea, with rotating workforces. Deliveries and service are arranged through the operator, so allow lead time. Ask the operator's logistics or procurement team how equipment is shipped, and who handles repair or replacement.
