Pertamina: industry on the ground
PT Badak LNG operates a plant at Bontang in East Kalimantan with 8 trains and a total capacity of 22.5 million tonnes a year, in which Pertamina has invested through an operating company.
Pertamina is Indonesia's state-owned energy company, headquartered in Jakarta and founded in 1968. In October 2020 Pertamina unveiled a new corporate identity, presenting itself as moving from a national oil and gas company to a global energy company with a stated net-zero ambition for 2060. This page sets out how an ATEX and IECEx smartphone supply route to Pertamina will work for the IS-04Z1, and what is and is not available before launch.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An ATEX and IECEx smartphone for Pertamina cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Indonesia. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

Pertamina lists a general procurement programme and an e-procurement system (GEPSMART) on its website; confirm current vendor requirements with Pertamina. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.
PT Badak LNG operates a plant at Bontang in East Kalimantan with 8 trains and a total capacity of 22.5 million tonnes a year, in which Pertamina has invested through an operating company.
As of 2013 Pertamina operated six oil refineries with a combined capacity of around one million barrels a day, and it has not built a new refinery since Balongan in West Java opened in the mid-1990s.
The six Arun LNG trains near Lhokseumawe in Aceh, with 12.5 million tonnes a year capacity, closed in 2014 for lack of feed gas, and the site now uses an LNG import terminal.
PT Donggi Senoro LNG in Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi, has one train with 2 million tonnes a year capacity, giving another LNG site where Pertamina has an investment.
ATEX is the European legal framework for equipment used in explosive atmospheres (Directive 2014/34/EU). IECEx is the international certification scheme built on the IEC 60079 standards. Buyers outside Europe often ask for both: an IECEx certificate is the technical evidence most national regimes build on, while ATEX is the legal route into the European market.
For the IS-04Z1 both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and neither certificate has been issued. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4: equipment Group II (surface industry), Category 2 (Zone 1 gas), protection concept ib (intrinsic safety), gas group IIC and temperature class T4.
In Pertamina. A Pertamina procurement or HSE reviewer would expect certificate evidence before a handheld enters a refinery process unit or fuel terminal. A dual ATEX and IECEx route helps international contractors and EPCs working on upgrades at the Dumai, Cilacap or Balikpapan refineries, who already carry that paperwork elsewhere. For the IS-04Z1, certification is in progress and no certificate exists.
Nothing can be bought for Pertamina today: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, and SAMS will supply end users through authorised distributors once certificates exist. What a buyer can do now is take the specification, ask for the written certification schedule and arrange a safe-area evaluation, so that the right local channel contacts you at launch.

Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.

No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Not yet. Both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and no certificate has been issued. Any listing that says otherwise is wrong.
Pertamina lists a general procurement programme and an e-procurement system (GEPSMART) on its website; confirm current vendor requirements with Pertamina.
Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Most Pertamina sites are hot and humid with heavy rain and coastal salt air, which stresses seals, connectors and batteries. For handheld devices look for strong ingress protection, corrosion resistance and thermal management, and ask the site about its own environmental limits.
Indonesia uses its own national standard conformity system alongside recognised international explosive-atmosphere certificates, and oil and gas operators apply their own specifications. Confirm with Pertamina and the site which certificates and local registration are accepted before offering handheld devices.
Typical uses would be the refinery process units at sites such as Dumai, Cilacap and Balongan, plus fuel terminals and production facilities. Which areas count as classified is Pertamina's call. Ask each site's HSE team for its area drawings before checking the IS-04Z1's target marking against them.
