Netherlands: industry on the ground
Two coal-fired power stations at Eemshaven and Maasvlakte are scheduled to close by 2030, and Borssele is the only nuclear power station, producing about 3.3% of electricity used.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, aimed at the refineries, chemical parks and tank terminals between Rotterdam and Geleen. In 2020, 64.2% of Dutch power came from gas-fired thermal stations, and the last of fourteen gas power stations was commissioned in 2013, so gas plant maintenance is a recurring workload. An ATEX and IECEx smartphone distributor in Netherlands would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Netherlands has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

Two coal-fired power stations at Eemshaven and Maasvlakte are scheduled to close by 2030, and Borssele is the only nuclear power station, producing about 3.3% of electricity used.
The Netherlands had 2,606 wind turbines in December 2020 and targets 70% renewable electricity by 2030, so wind and energy transition projects are a growing part of site work.
The petrochemical industry and general cargo transshipment are the most important activities in the port, and large oil refineries are located west of the city, making it one of Europe's densest hazardous-area clusters.
Rotterdam has five port concessions, operated by separate companies under the overall authority of the port, so access, induction and device rules typically differ from terminal to terminal.
ATEX is the European legal framework for equipment used in explosive atmospheres (Directive 2014/34/EU). IECEx is the international certification scheme built on the IEC 60079 standards. Buyers outside Europe often ask for both: an IECEx certificate is the technical evidence most national regimes build on, while ATEX is the legal route into the European market.
For the IS-04Z1 both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and neither certificate has been issued. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4: equipment Group II (surface industry), Category 2 (Zone 1 gas), protection concept ib (intrinsic safety), gas group IIC and temperature class T4.
In Netherlands. A Dutch HSE or procurement reviewer would look for ATEX evidence that drops straight into the site's explosieveiligheidsdocument: a precise marking string and a Dutch-language instruction manual, as the Warenwetbesluit requires. A dual ATEX and IECEx route helps international contractors in Botlek and Europoort. Both programmes are in progress and nothing is issued yet.
A distributor for Netherlands would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Not yet. Both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and no certificate has been issued. Any listing that says otherwise is wrong.

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Netherlands.
Dutch is the national language, but many Rotterdam terminals work in English because of their international customers. ATEX instructions are typically expected in the language of the destination, so confirm with the site safety office whether English or Dutch documents are required.
The Netherlands is an EU member, so ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU applies to equipment and Directive 1999/92/EC to zoning. Most Rotterdam terminals expect Zone 1 or Zone 2 devices to carry Ex and CE marking. Each concession adds its own registration and permit rules, so check before arrival.
The Warenwetbesluit requires a Dutch-language instruction manual for explosion-safe equipment, so buyers usually ask for it with the marking string. The ATEX programme for the IS-04Z1 is in progress, and documents are not yet issued. Confirm requirements with your site operator and the supplier before purchase.
