Marine access
Reliance states that its marine infrastructure takes vessels from small chemical carriers to very large crude carriers.
Jamnagar, on the Gulf of Kutch coast in Gujarat, hosts Reliance Industries' refining complex at Motikhavdi, which Reliance describes as the world's largest single-site refinery at 1.4 million barrels a day. Polymer exports from the Jamnagar complex were moved through Port Pipavav by container, with volumes quadrupled to over 10,000 forty-foot containers in one year. Distribution partners for Jamnagar, Gujarat are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026

Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

A short profile of the site and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
Reliance states that its marine infrastructure takes vessels from small chemical carriers to very large crude carriers.
Wikipedia quotes 1.24 million barrels a day, while Reliance's current site quotes 1.4 million; the operator's figure is used here.
The metropolitan area had about 877,000 residents in 2025, most speak Gujarati, and the literacy rate is about 82 percent.
The complex covers over 7,500 acres and includes utilities, port facilities and a 415-acre township for about 2,500 employees, according to a 2013 description.
The refinery was commissioned within 36 months, which means much of its equipment dates from around the turn of the century.
Jamnagar is known as the Brass City, with over 5,000 large and 10,000 small brass workshops, so local engineering and fabrication skills are widely available.
ATEX is the European legal framework for equipment used in explosive atmospheres (Directive 2014/34/EU). IECEx is the international certification scheme built on the IEC 60079 standards. Buyers outside Europe often ask for both: an IECEx certificate is the technical evidence most national regimes build on, while ATEX is the legal route into the European market.
For the IS-04Z1 both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and neither certificate has been issued. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4: equipment Group II (surface industry), Category 2 (Zone 1 gas), protection concept ib (intrinsic safety), gas group IIC and temperature class T4.
In Jamnagar, Gujarat. The Reliance complex at Motikhavdi is large enough that its own HSE and procurement teams, plus visiting international contractors, may each ask for certificate evidence. A dual ATEX and IECEx route addresses both audiences. The IS-04Z1 has no certificate yet, and both certification routes remain in progress.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Jamnagar, Gujarat. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
Not yet. Both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and no certificate has been issued. Any listing that says otherwise is wrong.
Likely candidates are refinery process units, petcoke gasification, refinery off-gas cracker and petrochemical units, crude and product tank farms. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Jamnagar, Gujarat.
The refinery complex handles over a million barrels a day plus petrochemical units and port facilities, so classified areas are extensive. The operator sets the zones and equipment rules, so confirm them before entering.
The area has a large industrial and fabrication base, including thousands of brass workshops, and a workforce that mostly speaks Gujarati. Operators still require site induction, so plan time for approvals.
Large sites mean long walks and long shifts, so battery life, charging points and a robust housing matter. Charging must happen in safe areas, not in classified ones. Ask the operator what charging and spare-device arrangements are permitted before planning a fleet.
