Sinopec: background
Sinopec Limited was established in February 2000 and listed in Hong Kong, New York and London in October 2000, raising 3.5 billion dollars, and a Shanghai listing followed in 2001.
Sinopec is a Beijing-headquartered state-controlled energy and chemicals group and the world's largest oil refining conglomerate. It operates refineries, petrochemical complexes and upstream units such as Shengli Oilfield in Shandong, and the Zhenhai base in Ningbo, upgraded to 40 million tonnes a year. If you are specifying an ATEX and IECEx mobile phone for Sinopec, this page covers the markings, the approvals and the current certification status of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for Sinopec: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in China. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The main sites and the hazardous-area types a portable device is likely to meet at this organisation.
Sinopec buys largely through its own EPEC.com procurement portal, and only suppliers certified by Sinopec can sell on it; confirm current certification steps with Sinopec. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.
Sinopec Limited was established in February 2000 and listed in Hong Kong, New York and London in October 2000, raising 3.5 billion dollars, and a Shanghai listing followed in 2001.
Sinopec Group is based in Chaoyang District, Beijing, and is administered by SASAC on behalf of the State Council, with listed subsidiary Sinopec Limited traded in Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Sinopec Group is a Beijing-based state-owned enterprise, administered by SASAC for the State Council.
The Jiujiang Petrochemical Complex was first built in 1975, has been upgraded repeatedly and processes about 8 million tonnes of crude oil a year, so old and modern plant sit together on one site.
ATEX is the European legal framework for equipment used in explosive atmospheres (Directive 2014/34/EU). IECEx is the international certification scheme built on the IEC 60079 standards. Buyers outside Europe often ask for both: an IECEx certificate is the technical evidence most national regimes build on, while ATEX is the legal route into the European market.
For the IS-04Z1 both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and neither certificate has been issued. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4: equipment Group II (surface industry), Category 2 (Zone 1 gas), protection concept ib (intrinsic safety), gas group IIC and temperature class T4.
In Sinopec. A Sinopec reviewer assessing a handset for Zhenhai, Maoming or the Shengli Oilfield would expect a certificate of conformity, schedule of conditions and marking. ATEX and IECEx evidence helps international contractors, licensors and EPCs working on Sinopec refineries and petrochemical complexes. The IS-04Z1 certification is in progress and nothing has been issued.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Not yet. Both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and no certificate has been issued. Any listing that says otherwise is wrong.

Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
Typical Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas are found at refineries, ethylene and petrochemical plants, tank farms, loading terminals and fuel stations. Classification is site-specific, so request the area classification drawings from the plant's safety department before choosing handheld devices.
Chinese plants commonly expect equipment for explosive atmospheres to hold the national explosion-protection certificate and marking, sometimes alongside international certificates. Confirm with the specific plant which approvals are accepted, and whether an inspection or registration step applies.
Zhenhai is a coastal refinery and petrochemical base with humid salty air, while Shengli is an upstream oilfield in Shandong with colder winters. Their area classifications also differ. Compare the device marking with each site's documents. The IS-04Z1 is not yet certified. Confirm with Sinopec's HSE team.
