Turkey: infrastructure
Electricity supplies about 20% of Turkey's energy and comes mainly from coal, gas and hydro, with a small but growing share from wind, solar and geothermal.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for refinery and petrochemical work at Aliağa and on the Marmara, gas terminal and pipeline operations, and the fertiliser and chemical plants inside the organised industrial zones. Energy policy aims to secure national supply and reduce fossil fuel imports, which accounted for over 20% of the cost of Turkey's imports in 2019, so domestic gas and refining projects are a priority. An ATEX and IECEx cell phone distributor in Turkey would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Turkey has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

Electricity supplies about 20% of Turkey's energy and comes mainly from coal, gas and hydro, with a small but growing share from wind, solar and geothermal.
The Ceyhan marine terminal on the Mediterranean has seven storage tanks and a jetty that can load two tankers of up to 300,000 DWT at once, as the end point of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.
Black Sea gas is forecast to meet all residential demand from the late 2020s, which implies new offshore and onshore gas processing and pipeline work.
In 2019 primary energy was about 30% oil, 30% coal and 25% gas, and over 85% of energy came from fossil fuels, so refining, gas and coal sites provide most classified-area work.
ATEX is the European legal framework for equipment used in explosive atmospheres (Directive 2014/34/EU). IECEx is the international certification scheme built on the IEC 60079 standards. Buyers outside Europe often ask for both: an IECEx certificate is the technical evidence most national regimes build on, while ATEX is the legal route into the European market.
For the IS-04Z1 both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and neither certificate has been issued. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4: equipment Group II (surface industry), Category 2 (Zone 1 gas), protection concept ib (intrinsic safety), gas group IIC and temperature class T4.
In Turkey. A Turkish procurement or HSE reviewer at TÜPRAŞ, SOCAR Türkiye or PETKİM would expect ATEX evidence under the framework in use, with the temperature class and ambient range checked first. A dual ATEX and IECEx route helps international contractors and EPCs at Aliağa, Ceyhan and Kocaeli. The IS-04Z1 certification is in progress and nothing is issued.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Turkey. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Not yet. Both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and no certificate has been issued. Any listing that says otherwise is wrong.

Conditions range from hot coastal summers to cold central and eastern winters, so check both the maximum and the lowest ambient ratings on the certificate, the water and dust ingress rating and touch operation with gloves. Coastal terminals also add salt air.
Turkish is the working language, and instructions are typically expected in the language of the destination country, with English accepted at some international operators. Provide the certificate, declaration of conformity and Ex marking details, and ask the operator what it requires.
The sheet states Turkish on the screen and in the file, on Android 16. Confirm the language pack, keyboard and the language of the certificate and manual with the supplier during an evaluation, particularly for contractor crews.
