ATEX and IECEx Cell Phone Distributor in Czech Republic

The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for Czech refineries, chemical plants, tank farms and coke ovens rather than for a catalogue. In 2022 electricity production was 78.8 TWh, of which 53.6% came from fossil fuels, mostly lignite, and 40.95% from nuclear, so coal-handling plants and power stations are typical dust and gas sites. Distribution partners for Czech Republic are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.

More about Czech Republic that matters for portable equipment

Czech Republic: infrastructure

The Gazela pipeline connects Czech gas supply through Germany at Brandov or Rozvadov and through Slovakia at Lanžhot, so compressor and metering stations sit near the borders.

Czech Republic: rules and approvals

ATEX equipment is split into Group I for mining and Group II for surface industries, which matters in a country with coal mining as well as refining and chemicals.

Czech Republic: industry on the ground

Gas use was 9.4 billion cubic metres in 2021 and 7.1 billion in 2023, so gas distribution and industrial gas burners remain widespread across Czech industry.

Czech Republic: logistics and access

State operator MERO finished expanding the Transalpine pipeline at the end of 2024, delivering up to 8 million tonnes of oil a year, with the central oil depot at Nelahozeves as a key storage point.

The term · ATEX and IECEx

What “ATEX and IECEx” means for a smartphone

ATEX is the European legal framework for equipment used in explosive atmospheres (Directive 2014/34/EU). IECEx is the international certification scheme built on the IEC 60079 standards. Buyers outside Europe often ask for both: an IECEx certificate is the technical evidence most national regimes build on, while ATEX is the legal route into the European market.

For the IS-04Z1 both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and neither certificate has been issued. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4: equipment Group II (surface industry), Category 2 (Zone 1 gas), protection concept ib (intrinsic safety), gas group IIC and temperature class T4.

In Czech Republic. The Czech route is entirely European: ATEX 2014/34/EU is transposed by nařízení vlády 116/2016 Sb., and a notified body certificate, EU declaration of conformity and CE marking suffice. Czech buyers often ask which body issued the certificate, since FTZÚ in Ostrava is notified body 1026. An IECEx route helps groups also working outside the EU. Certification is in progress.

The route · distribution

Distributing the IS-04Z1 in Czech Republic

Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Czech Republic. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.

What SAMS looks for in a partner

Operator relationships
Existing supplier registrations or a clear route to them with the main operators and contractors in Czech Republic.
Ex-competent staff
People who understand zone classification, markings and the conditions of a certificate.

And equally important

Local-language support
Documentation, training and helpdesk in the languages the workforce uses.
Service capability
Spares, battery replacement and repair routed through SAMS-approved channels.
Questions · Czech Republic

Frequently asked questions

Can we buy an ATEX and IECEx cell phone in Czech Republic today?

No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.

What does an ATEX and IECEx cell phone in Czech Republic cost?

SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.

Is the IS-04Z1 ATEX and IECEx certified?

Not yet. Both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and no certificate has been issued. Any listing that says otherwise is wrong.

Which sites in Czech Republic does this cover?

The market guide for Czech Republic covers Litvínov and Záluží, Kralupy nad Vltavou, Neratovice, Valašské Meziříčí, among others. Site-level pages are linked below.

How do I become a SAMS distributor for Czech Republic?

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Czech Republic.

Do Czech mines need different Ex equipment from refineries?

Yes. ATEX separates Group I equipment for mining from Group II for surface industries, and methane and coal dust conditions underground differ from refinery gas and vapour. Check the Group marking on any device against the area and the mine operator's own approval process.

How do pipeline terminals in the Czech Republic affect device planning?

Crude arrives by pipeline from Germany and Italy, with storage at depots such as Nelahozeves, so many classified areas are at pumping and storage sites rather than ports. Terminal operators run their own induction and device registration, so schedule approvals early for shutdown work.

Must the instructions be in Czech?

Czech law expects the instructions in Czech, so the manual, safe-use guidance and declaration of conformity are planned in Czech alongside English, with a Czech interface on Android 16. That is planned into the launch rather than translated afterwards. Certification is in progress. Check requirements with your safety officer.
