Sour gas
Much of the Habshan area is designated Red Zone because of hydrogen sulphide gas, so site-specific safety controls apply.
Habshan, in south-western Abu Dhabi, is ADNOC Gas's largest processing complex, with five plants and 14 processing trains and 6.1 bscfd capacity. It yields sales gas, NGLs, condensate and sulphur, so Zone 1 areas cover process, compression and storage units. Distribution partners for Habshan gas complex are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Habshan gas complex has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Habshan Gas. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

Much of the Habshan area is designated Red Zone because of hydrogen sulphide gas, so site-specific safety controls apply.
Two pipelines of over 200 km link Habshan with Das Island, and the Habshan-Fujairah crude pipeline starts here.
Habshan is the terminal station of the Etihad Rail network, whose commercial operations began in December 2015, giving the site a direct freight rail link.
Habshan is an area in the south-western part of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi that contains oil and gas fields and camps for oil workers.
The area is a major production centre for sulphur, a by-product of the oil industry, so sulphur handling and dust are part of site conditions.
The pipeline route passes east of Abu Dhabi city, through Sweihan and west of Al Ain, so it crosses open desert for most of its length.
A rugged phone is built to survive water, dust, drops and rough handling, usually rated by an IP code and a drop specification. Ruggedness is an environmental property: it says nothing about whether a phone may be used where flammable gas or dust is present. That is decided by explosion-protection certification and marking.
The IS-04Z1 combines both: an IP68 sealed rugged build and a design for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4). The explosion-protection certificates are in progress and none has been issued.
In Habshan gas complex. Habshan is remote desert, so heat, dust and long distances from the coast define the environment. IP68 helps against dust and water ingress, but it is not a measure of explosion protection. Only the Ex marking and the certificate describe that, and for the IS-04Z1 they are in progress.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Habshan gas complex. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
It is designed to IP68 sealing, with glove-friendly controls. Ruggedness is not explosion protection: that depends on the certificates, which are in progress.
Likely candidates are gas processing trains, ngl and condensate handling, sulphur and acid-gas units, gas pipelines. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Habshan gas complex.
Habshan is the terminal station of the Etihad Rail network, which began commercial operations in December 2015. Rail is commonly used for bulk cargo such as sulphur, but equipment deliveries for a project usually go by road; confirm what is practical with the site operator.
Wikipedia notes that much of the Habshan area is marked as a Red Zone because of hydrogen sulphide gas. In practice that usually means extra gas-detection, breathing apparatus and entry controls on top of normal hazardous-area rules, which are set by the operator and taught at induction.
Habshan is remote desert with worker camps, and it is the terminal station of the Etihad Rail network. Deliveries and repairs are arranged through the operator, so allow lead time. Ask ADNOC Gas's procurement team how spares and replacement devices are received on site.
