Greece: logistics and access
Greece imported about 496,600 barrels of oil a day against domestic production of 7,946, according to the cited 2011 data, so imported crude moves through port terminals and tank farms.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for refinery rounds in the Attica heat, gas terminal work at Revithoussa and Alexandroupolis, and the cargo and bunker operations that run out of Piraeus. A 390 MW natural gas power station in Thessaloniki opened in 2005 and is run by a subsidiary, adding gas-fired power to the refinery complex. Distribution partners for Greece are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Greece has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

Greece imported about 496,600 barrels of oil a day against domestic production of 7,946, according to the cited 2011 data, so imported crude moves through port terminals and tank farms.
Motor Oil Hellas, headquartered in Marousi, operates the Corinth refinery, which gives it about 35% of Greek refining, and its naphtha complex of 22,000 barrels a day was completed in 2022.
Petrochemicals, including plastics, PVC, polypropylene, aliphatic solvents, chlorine and sodium hydroxide, are produced at a unit forming part of the Thessaloniki refinery.
Renewables and hydropower rose from over 20% to around 50% of electricity generation since 2015, while lignite fell from 60% in 2005 to about 10% in 2021.
A rugged phone is built to survive water, dust, drops and rough handling, usually rated by an IP code and a drop specification. Ruggedness is an environmental property: it says nothing about whether a phone may be used where flammable gas or dust is present. That is decided by explosion-protection certification and marking.
The IS-04Z1 combines both: an IP68 sealed rugged build and a design for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4). The explosion-protection certificates are in progress and none has been issued.
In Greece. Greek refineries and yards sit in heat and salt air, close to the sea. IP68 sealing helps with water, dust and salt-laden spray ingress, and washdown. It is not explosion protection, which must come from certification and the Ex marking. Heat exposure and battery behaviour on hot days should be tested on a trial unit.
A distributor for Greece would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
It is designed to IP68 sealing, with glove-friendly controls. Ruggedness is not explosion protection: that depends on the certificates, which are in progress.

Mainland refineries are reachable by road, but islands depend on ferry or air freight and timetables vary by season. Order spare batteries and chargers early, and confirm with the operator whether devices must be registered before shipment to the site.
Hot summers and direct sun can push device temperatures up, which affects battery safety and display visibility. Check the maximum ambient temperature on the certificate, and avoid leaving devices on hot surfaces. Offshore and island sites also add salt air that can affect connectors.
Shipyards and refineries may follow different regimes and have different zone definitions. A device would need a marking suitable for each area it enters. Ask each operator or yard authority what evidence and permits they require before carrying a handset in.
