Oman: geography and layout
Duqm, about 550 km from Muscat, hosts a Special Economic Zone with a refinery on 900 hectares and a port, and Duqm Airport opened in 2014.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, aimed at the field operators, technicians, inspection engineers and HSE teams who work inside Oman’s classified areas. Buyers searching for an intrinsically safe smartphone supplier for Oman can take the datasheet and the certification schedule for the IS-04Z1 now; supply follows certification.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An intrinsically safe smartphone for Oman cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Oman. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

Petroleum Development Oman delivers most of the country's crude and gas, owned 60 percent by the government, 34 percent by Shell, 4 percent by TotalEnergies and 2 percent by Partex.
Muscat has a hot arid climate with about 10 centimetres of rain a year, falling mostly from December to April, so heat rather than rain is the main stress.
Oman's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority type approval is valid for four years, previously it had no expiry, and a local representative and compliance mark are required.
Intrinsic safety limits the electrical and thermal energy in a circuit so that neither a spark nor a hot surface can ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even when a fault occurs. The ib level, used for Zone 1, tolerates one fault. It is the usual way to make a handheld device that a worker carries continuously through a hazardous area.
The IS-04Z1 is designed on this principle for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4). Intrinsic safety is a design basis, not a certificate: certification is in progress and none has been issued yet.
In Oman. Field operators at Fahud, Yibal, Marmul and Mukhaizna make rounds across wide acreage, with sour gas at Harweel. An intrinsically safe handheld lets one device photograph, log and communicate in classified ground, while Bluetooth pairing keeps a personal gas detector and handset working together rather than occupying two hands.
There is no stock to order for Oman yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, certification is in progress, and supply will run through authorised distributors after the certificates are issued. Procurement teams can prepare now with the datasheet, the certification schedule and a safe-area evaluation.

Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.

Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
The circuits are designed to limit energy so a spark or hot surface cannot ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even with one fault (level ib, Zone 1). Certification of that design is in progress.

Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
No. Oman announced in July 2025 that it had completed the shutdown of 3G networks, upgrading to 4G and 5G. Choose devices with LTE support.
The TRA issues type approval certificates, now valid for four years, with a local representative and a compliance mark required. A new self-declaration route for importers started in 2026, so confirm the current route for each model.
From June to September the monsoon leaves Salalah in persistent damp and fog, and Sohar and Sur are humid and salt laden all year. A rugged build and IP68 sealing are aimed at that, but IP68 is not explosion protection. Check the certified ambient range once published.
