ONGC: who works there
In January 2018 ONGC completed the acquisition of a 51.11% stake in Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, so refining and fuel distribution sites are now linked to the ONGC group.
ONGC is India's largest government-owned oil and gas explorer and producer, founded in 1956 and headquartered in New Delhi. The headquarters is Deendayal Urja Bhawan on Nelson Mandela Road in Vasant Kunj, Delhi, while the working assets are in Assam, Gujarat, Mumbai offshore, the Cauvery and Krishna Godavari regions. Buyers searching for an intrinsically safe smartphone supplier for ONGC can take the datasheet and the certification schedule for the IS-04Z1 now; supply follows certification.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An intrinsically safe smartphone for ONGC cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in India. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of its operations and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
ONGC buyers register through its e-tender portal (user ID obtained via the new-bidder access authorisation link), and bidders need a digital signature certificate; confirm current rules with ONGC. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.

ONGC Videsh, the international arm renamed in 1989, holds overseas oil and gas projects, so some ONGC contractors also work to foreign operators' rules.
It explores in 26 sedimentary basins of India, and its domestic operations are structured around 11 production assets, 7 exploratory basins and two plants at Hazira and Uran.
A 2015 offshore contract for the Bassein development project and a 2016 plan to invest in Tripura gas wells and surface facilities show continuing offshore and north-eastern activity.
Intrinsic safety limits the electrical and thermal energy in a circuit so that neither a spark nor a hot surface can ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even when a fault occurs. The ib level, used for Zone 1, tolerates one fault. It is the usual way to make a handheld device that a worker carries continuously through a hazardous area.
The IS-04Z1 is designed on this principle for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4). Intrinsic safety is a design basis, not a certificate: certification is in progress and none has been issued yet.
In ONGC. Operators on a platform or at a processing plant walk rounds with gauges, logs and defect lists. A handheld intrinsically safe phone lets them photograph equipment, scan tags and report faults inside classified areas without carrying a separate camera or paper forms. It would suit inspection rounds on Mumbai High production decks and in the Hazira and Uran plant areas.
There is no stock to order for ONGC yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, certification is in progress, and supply will run through authorised distributors after the certificates are issued. Procurement teams can prepare now with the datasheet, the certification schedule and a safe-area evaluation.
The technical specification, marking target and conditions of use, sent by email.
Which certificates are in progress, in what order, and what is still to be confirmed.
Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.

Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
The circuits are designed to limit energy so a spark or hot surface cannot ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even with one fault (level ib, Zone 1). Certification of that design is in progress.
ONGC buyers register through its e-tender portal (user ID obtained via the new-bidder access authorisation link), and bidders need a digital signature certificate; confirm current rules with ONGC.
Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
India generally relies on Indian standards aligned with IEC explosive-atmosphere standards, with certification commonly through recognised Indian test bodies and regulation by the petroleum and explosives safety authorities. Confirm with ONGC and the certifying body which certificate it will accept before supply.
ONGC runs its own procurement through vendor registration and tendering, and individual assets or contractors may buy equipment too. There is no public approved list for hazardous-area devices, so confirm current registration and certification requirements with the relevant ONGC procurement office.
Offshore decks mean salt spray and damp air. IP68 protects against dust and immersion but not against ignition; the Ex marking, still in progress, governs hazardous use. Ask the platform HSE team how handheld devices are controlled on deck, and test battery behaviour in local heat before any fleet purchase.
