Intrinsically Safe Smartphone Distributor in US LNG Terminals

The United States exports LNG mainly from Gulf Coast terminals in Louisiana and Texas. Golden Pass LNG at Sabine Pass, owned 70 percent by QatarEnergy and 30 percent by ExxonMobil, has an 18 million tonne a year capacity and was due to be commissioned in 2025. Distribution partners for US LNG export terminals are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.

Short answer. US LNG export terminals has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.

Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

More about US LNG export terminals that matters for portable equipment

US LNG export terminals: climate and equipment wear

LNG is held at about minus 162 degrees Celsius and is not itself flammable; it must first vaporise and mix with air in a range of roughly 5 to 15 percent before it can burn.

US LNG export terminals: infrastructure

The Lake Charles LNG terminal near Lake Charles, Louisiana, has facilities for LNG receipt, storage and regasification and is one of the few such US terminals.

US LNG export terminals: industry on the ground

By 2023 the US had become the world's biggest LNG exporter, with Cheniere, Freeport LNG and Venture Global as the largest exporters, and exported about 4.3 trillion cubic feet that year.

US Department of Energy records list export and re-export applications for projects including Cameron LNG, Port Arthur LNG Phase II, Sabine Pass Liquefaction, Golden Pass and Corpus Christi Liquefaction.

The term · intrinsically safe

What “intrinsically safe” means for a smartphone

Intrinsic safety limits the electrical and thermal energy in a circuit so that neither a spark nor a hot surface can ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even when a fault occurs. The ib level, used for Zone 1, tolerates one fault. It is the usual way to make a handheld device that a worker carries continuously through a hazardous area.

The IS-04Z1 is designed on this principle for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4). Intrinsic safety is a design basis, not a certificate: certification is in progress and none has been issued yet.

In US LNG export terminals. LNG operators run inspection rounds across trains, storage tanks, loading berths and compression. A handheld intrinsically safe phone is designed to be carried into those Zone 1 areas for notes, photographs and field messaging. Commissioning of new capacity also draws many contractors; certification must be complete before any classified use.

The route · distribution

Distributing the IS-04Z1 in US LNG Terminals

Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for US LNG export terminals. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.

Questions · US LNG Terminals

Frequently asked questions

Can we buy an intrinsically safe smartphone in US LNG Terminals today?

Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.

What does an intrinsically safe smartphone in US LNG Terminals cost?

SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.

What does ‘intrinsically safe’ mean for the IS-04Z1?

The circuits are designed to limit energy so a spark or hot surface cannot ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even with one fault (level ib, Zone 1). Certification of that design is in progress.

Which areas at US LNG export terminals would use it?

Likely candidates are liquefaction trains, lng storage tanks, ship loading berths, gas compression and pipelines. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.

How do I become a SAMS distributor for US LNG export terminals?

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for US LNG export terminals.

What hazardous areas should I expect at an LNG terminal?

Typical classified areas are around storage tanks, vaporisers, loading arms, compressor buildings and flare systems. The operator defines these with area classification drawings, so request them before any visit and confirm what approved portable equipment they accept.

Why does LNG need special precautions even though it does not burn as a liquid?

LNG must vaporise and mix with air within a flammable range of roughly 5 to 15 percent before it ignites. Leaks and vents therefore create gas-hazard zones, which is why sites control portable electronics and ignition sources carefully.

Who approves handheld devices at an LNG export terminal?

Terminal operators and EPC contractors normally control equipment approvals, so the approving party depends on whether the site is operating or under construction. The IS-04Z1 has no certificate yet. Confirm requirements with the site operator or EPC before any proposal.
