The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Zone 1 and Zone 21 handset for people who work inside classified areas on Jurong Island, at Pulau Bukom and around the Tuas terminals: process operators, inspection and maintenance engineers, turnaround crews and the WSH and IT teams who equip them. Natural gas now supplies over 90 percent of Singapore's electricity generation, up from under 20 percent in 2000, and the LNG terminal sends out about 9 million tonnes a year as its average capacity. Distribution partners for Singapore are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.

IMDA registers telecommunications equipment under a supplier's declaration approach. Cellular mobile devices, including 5G and LTE, fall under Simplified Equipment Registration, while base stations and similar higher-risk products need a recognised certification body.
An IMDA equipment registration is valid for five years, renewal is filed through the GoBusiness portal at least two months before expiry, and suppliers must keep test reports and technical files for five years.
Tuas Port opened on 1 September 2022 and is planned to reach 65 million TEU of annual handling capacity in the 2040s, which concentrates future cargo flows in the far west of the island.
Energy and chemicals is Singapore's second-largest manufacturing sector, with more than 100 global chemicals companies operating here, which keeps a steady flow of maintenance and turnaround work in classified areas.
Intrinsic safety limits the electrical and thermal energy in a circuit so that neither a spark nor a hot surface can ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even when a fault occurs. The ib level, used for Zone 1, tolerates one fault. It is the usual way to make a handheld device that a worker carries continuously through a hazardous area.
The IS-04Z1 is designed on this principle for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4). Intrinsic safety is a design basis, not a certificate: certification is in progress and none has been issued yet.
In Singapore. Rounds on Jurong Island, Pulau Bukom and the storage islands such as Sebarok mean long walks and boat journeys, so a handheld that is intrinsically safe saves a second trip back to the control room. A flat handset on an island is the next boat away, which makes battery capacity part of the selection.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Singapore. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
The circuits are designed to limit energy so a spark or hot surface cannot ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even with one fault (level ib, Zone 1). Certification of that design is in progress.

Singapore adopts IEC 60079 as SS EN 60079, and both IECEx and ATEX certificates are built on that technical base. Many operators accept either, but an individual refinery or yard may name one scheme in its specification, so confirm with the operator's HSE or instrumentation team.
Cellular mobile devices are generally registered with IMDA under the Simplified Equipment Registration route, which relies on a supplier's declaration of conformity. The registration is valid for five years, and the registering supplier is typically a local entity. Confirm the exact route for a specific model with IMDA or a local compliance adviser.
The design pairs a 4,000 mAh battery with IP68 sealing so the unit lasts through a shift where a spare may be a boat away. Charging stays in a safe area. Test battery life on a typical round and confirm access rules with the island operator.
