The refinery sits on about 3,345 acres roughly 5 km from Paradip Port, and a polypropylene plant began operating in FY 2019-20.
Paradip on the Odisha coast hosts Indian Oil's 15 million tonne a year refinery, inaugurated on 7 February 2016, which processes heavy crude received through offshore single point moorings. Indian Oil's Paradip refinery was commissioned in 2016 at 15 million tonnes a year, covering about 3,345 acres about 5 kilometres south-west of Paradip Port. Distribution partners for Paradip, Odisha are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Paradip, Odisha has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Paradip India. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of the site and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
The refinery sits on about 3,345 acres roughly 5 km from Paradip Port, and a polypropylene plant began operating in FY 2019-20.
The Odisha coast is generally hot and humid with monsoon rain and cyclone exposure, so sealed devices suit outdoor work.
The nearest commercial airport is Biju Patnaik International Airport, and Paradip is on National Highway 53.
Crude is imported and products exported through the South Oil Jetty inside Paradip Port.
A petrochemical complex of polypropylene, ethylene glycol and PX-PTA units is being added in stages, so construction and commissioning work continues on site.
Paradip sits at an average elevation of only about one metre above sea level, in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha, about 90 kilometres from Cuttack.
Intrinsic safety limits the electrical and thermal energy in a circuit so that neither a spark nor a hot surface can ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even when a fault occurs. The ib level, used for Zone 1, tolerates one fault. It is the usual way to make a handheld device that a worker carries continuously through a hazardous area.
The IS-04Z1 is designed on this principle for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4). Intrinsic safety is a design basis, not a certificate: certification is in progress and none has been issued yet.
In Paradip, Odisha. Rounds across process units, the polypropylene unit and product storage cover a large site, and marine checks add separate routines at the jetty. An intrinsically safe handheld supports logging at the asset. The IS-04Z1 is designed for this work, though certification is still in progress.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Paradip, Odisha. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
The circuits are designed to limit energy so a spark or hot surface cannot ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even with one fault (level ib, Zone 1). Certification of that design is in progress.
Likely candidates are refinery process units, crude receipt via single point moorings, polypropylene unit, product storage and loading. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Paradip, Odisha.
The nearest commercial airport is Biju Patnaik International Airport, and Paradip is on National Highway 53, about 90 kilometres from Cuttack. Allow time for road transfer and gate passes.
A petrochemical complex including polypropylene, ethylene glycol and PX-PTA units is being added in stages. Construction contractors and operators may follow different access rules, so confirm with each.
Plan for heavy rain, humidity and storm disruption, with secure storage and charging in safe indoor areas. Sealed IP68 housings help with water. Ask the operator about its severe-weather procedures for portable equipment and how devices are secured during warnings.
