Intrinsically Safe Cell Phone Distributor in Peru

The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe handset for people who cross into classified areas in Peru every shift: copper mine and concentrator operators, Camisea gas-field crews, refinery engineers, and the HSE and telecoms teams who equip them. Shell discovered the Camisea fields in 1986 under blocks 38 and 42, a contract signed in 1981 that covered about 20,000 square kilometres of the southern Ucayali Basin. An intrinsically safe cell phone distributor in Peru would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.

More about Peru that matters for portable equipment

Peru: industry on the ground

In 2019 Peru was the world's second-largest producer of copper, silver and zinc, third for lead and eighth for gold, so mining is a major source of hazardous and dusty areas.

Peru: logistics and access

Camisea's remote jungle location and Andean pipeline route mean access is long and difficult, so spares, battery supplies and support for portable devices need planning in advance.

Peru: infrastructure

The 540 kilometre Camisea pipeline crosses the steep Andes to the Pisco terminal in the Paracas National Reservation, passing the Malvinas plant where LPG liquids are separated from the gas.

Peru: rules and approvals

A testing partner reports that Peruvian homologation needs no local laboratory tests or local representative, certificates have unlimited validity, and there are no extra labelling requirements.

The term · intrinsically safe

What “intrinsically safe” means for a smartphone

Intrinsic safety limits the electrical and thermal energy in a circuit so that neither a spark nor a hot surface can ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even when a fault occurs. The ib level, used for Zone 1, tolerates one fault. It is the usual way to make a handheld device that a worker carries continuously through a hazardous area.

The IS-04Z1 is designed on this principle for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4). Intrinsic safety is a design basis, not a certificate: certification is in progress and none has been issued yet.

In Peru. A round across an open pit or a long concentrator, or through the Camisea plant in the Amazon foothills, is a full shift away from a charger. An intrinsically safe handheld lets one device log, photograph and communicate in classified areas, with the 4,000 mAh battery specified for a shift rather than a short visit.

The route · distribution

Distributing the IS-04Z1 in Peru

A distributor for Peru would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.

What SAMS looks for in a partner

Operator relationships
Existing supplier registrations or a clear route to them with the main operators and contractors in Peru.
Ex-competent staff
People who understand zone classification, markings and the conditions of a certificate.

Questions · Peru

Frequently asked questions

Can we buy an intrinsically safe cell phone in Peru today?

No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.

What does an intrinsically safe cell phone in Peru cost?

There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.

What does ‘intrinsically safe’ mean for the IS-04Z1?

The circuits are designed to limit energy so a spark or hot surface cannot ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even with one fault (level ib, Zone 1). Certification of that design is in progress.

Which sites in Peru does this cover?

The market guide for Peru covers Cuajone / Toquepala, Antamina, Cerro Verde, Las Bambas, among others. Site-level pages are linked below.

How do I become a SAMS distributor for Peru?

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Peru.

How should devices handle high-altitude mining in the Andes?

At altitude the air is thin and cold, with strong sun and sharp temperature swings, so check the operating temperature range, battery behaviour in cold and any altitude rating on the datasheet. Confirm site limits with the mine operator, who may also restrict where devices can be taken underground.

Do remote jungle sites such as Camisea need special support planning?

Yes. Camisea is a remote, forested site in the Amazon Basin, so deliveries and repairs are slow. Plan spare devices, chargers and batteries, and ask the operator or contractor about transport, camp rules, permits and device approval before dispatching equipment.

Is Spanish supported on the handset?

Android 16 carries both Spanish and English interface languages on the same handset, which suits operations with local and international technical staff. Interface language is a software matter and separate from certification. Check with your IT team which language packs and apps your fleet policy requires.
