Intrinsically Safe Cell Phone Distributor in Greece

The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for refinery rounds in the Attica heat, gas terminal work at Revithoussa and Alexandroupolis, and the cargo and bunker operations that run out of Piraeus. Greece imported about 496,600 barrels of oil a day against domestic production of 7,946, according to the cited 2011 data, so imported crude moves through port terminals and tank farms. Distribution partners for Greece are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.

More about Greece that matters for portable equipment

Greece: who works there

Motor Oil Hellas, headquartered in Marousi, operates the Corinth refinery, which gives it about 35% of Greek refining, and its naphtha complex of 22,000 barrels a day was completed in 2022.

Greece: industry on the ground

Petrochemicals, including plastics, PVC, polypropylene, aliphatic solvents, chlorine and sodium hydroxide, are produced at a unit forming part of the Thessaloniki refinery.

Greece: industry on the ground

Renewables and hydropower rose from over 20% to around 50% of electricity generation since 2015, while lignite fell from 60% in 2005 to about 10% in 2021.

Greece: logistics and access

The 213 km Thessaloniki-Skopje pipeline resumed operations at the beginning of 2026 after a 13-year suspension, so product pipeline terminals are active again at both ends.

The term · intrinsically safe

What “intrinsically safe” means for a smartphone

Intrinsic safety limits the electrical and thermal energy in a circuit so that neither a spark nor a hot surface can ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even when a fault occurs. The ib level, used for Zone 1, tolerates one fault. It is the usual way to make a handheld device that a worker carries continuously through a hazardous area.

The IS-04Z1 is designed on this principle for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4). Intrinsic safety is a design basis, not a certificate: certification is in progress and none has been issued yet.

In Greece. Rounds at Aspropyrgos, Elefsina and Agioi Theodoroi in the Attica heat, and bunker and cargo work at Piraeus, mean crews carry a handset between zones. An intrinsically safe device lets them photograph, record and report at the point of work. That is the design intent, pending certification and operator approval.

The route · distribution

Distributing the IS-04Z1 in Greece

Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Greece. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.

What SAMS looks for in a partner

Operator relationships
Existing supplier registrations or a clear route to them with the main operators and contractors in Greece.
Ex-competent staff
People who understand zone classification, markings and the conditions of a certificate.

And equally important

Local-language support
Documentation, training and helpdesk in the languages the workforce uses.
Service capability
Spares, battery replacement and repair routed through SAMS-approved channels.
Questions · Greece

Frequently asked questions

Can we buy an intrinsically safe cell phone in Greece today?

No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.

What does an intrinsically safe cell phone in Greece cost?

No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.

What does ‘intrinsically safe’ mean for the IS-04Z1?

The circuits are designed to limit energy so a spark or hot surface cannot ignite a gas or dust atmosphere, even with one fault (level ib, Zone 1). Certification of that design is in progress.

Which sites in Greece does this cover?

The market guide for Greece covers Aspropyrgos, Elefsina, Agioi Theodoroi, Thessaloniki, among others. Site-level pages are linked below.

How do I become a SAMS distributor for Greece?

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Greece.

How should I plan device supply for island or coastal Greek sites?

Mainland refineries are reachable by road, but islands depend on ferry or air freight and timetables vary by season. Order spare batteries and chargers early, and confirm with the operator whether devices must be registered before shipment to the site.

Does Greek summer heat matter for Ex handheld devices?

Hot summers and direct sun can push device temperatures up, which affects battery safety and display visibility. Check the maximum ambient temperature on the certificate, and avoid leaving devices on hot surfaces. Offshore and island sites also add salt air that can affect connectors.

Can the same device be used in a shipyard and a refinery?

Shipyards and refineries may follow different regimes and have different zone definitions. A device would need a marking suitable for each area it enters. Ask each operator or yard authority what evidence and permits they require before carrying a handset in.
