Egypt: rules and approvals
The National Telecom Regulatory Authority must approve any equipment that uses radio frequencies or connects to public networks, including mobile phones, before it can be imported or sold in Egypt.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe handset for people who cross into classified areas in Egypt every shift: Gulf of Suez platform crews, LNG terminal operators, refinery engineers and the HSE and telecoms teams who equip them. Buyers searching for an industrial smartphone supplier for Egypt can take the datasheet and the certification schedule for the IS-04Z1 now; supply follows certification.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An industrial smartphone for Egypt cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

Egypt has set a target of 42 per cent renewable electricity by 2030 and is building nuclear capacity at El Dabaa, so new classified-area work will include non-fossil projects too.
Apache, using assets acquired from BP in 2010, is the major operator in the Western Desert, often through joint ventures with EGPC such as Khalda Petroleum and Qarun Petroleum.
Egypt's LNG plants at Damietta and Idku are operated by Egyptian LNG and SEGAS LNG, and gas supplied 84 per cent of Egypt's electricity in 2023.
“Industrial” describes a phone built for plant conditions: sealed, drop-resistant and manageable at fleet scale through Android Enterprise. It does not by itself mean the phone may enter a classified area. Only a device with a valid explosion-protection certificate and marking may do that.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to be both an industrial Android phone (IP68, 4,000 mAh battery, 50 MP camera, Android 16 with EMM and MDM support) and an intrinsically safe one. Its explosion-protection certificates are in progress and have not been issued.
In Egypt. A mixed national and expatriate technical workforce shares equipment across EGPC affiliates, international operators and contractors. Android 16 carries Arabic and English on one build, and EMM and MDM enrolment pushes the corporate profile and camera policy centrally, which matters where photography around LNG and export infrastructure runs on strict permit control.
There is no stock to order for Egypt yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, certification is in progress, and supply will run through authorised distributors after the certificates are issued. Procurement teams can prepare now with the datasheet, the certification schedule and a safe-area evaluation.

Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.

No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
Yes by design: IP68 sealing, a 4,000 mAh battery, a 50 MP camera and Android 16 with EMM and MDM support. The explosion-protection certificates are separate and still in progress.

Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Typically at Western Desert and Gulf of Suez oil and gas facilities, Mediterranean offshore gas processing, LNG plants at Damietta and Idku, refineries and the petrochemical clusters near the Suez Canal. Ask each operator for its classification drawings before specifying equipment.
NTRA type approval is described as mandatory before telecom or wireless equipment can be imported or sold, usually through a local importer, with CE or FCC test reports and technical documents. Certificates are typically valid for a limited period such as a year. Confirm current rules with NTRA or an agent.
Photography around LNG and export infrastructure runs on strict permit control. Android 16 with EMM and MDM lets camera policy be pushed centrally, so it can be limited per site. The device has a 50 MP camera, but use is subject to site rules. Check with the operator's security team.
