LNG
South Hook, opened in 2009 with five storage tanks, is described as Europe's largest LNG terminal. With Dragon LNG, the two terminals can provide up to a quarter of UK gas demand.
The Milford Haven Waterway in Pembrokeshire is Wales' largest port and a major energy hub. Oil refining at Milford Haven began with the first oil terminal and refinery in 1960, and the waterway still carries the jetties, oil terminals and shore processing facilities of the oil and power industries. Distribution partners for Wales (Milford Haven Waterway) are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Wales (Milford Haven Waterway) has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Wales. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

South Hook, opened in 2009 with five storage tanks, is described as Europe's largest LNG terminal. With Dragon LNG, the two terminals can provide up to a quarter of UK gas demand.
The waterway is a deep natural harbour at the western end of Wales, so contractors often travel in for turnarounds.
In 2012 the Milford waterway was announced as an Enterprise Zone because of its importance to the energy sector, and parts of it lie within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park with protected sites.
Wales produced 30.2 TWh of electricity in 2018 and consumed 14.9 TWh, making it a net exporter, with gas generation at Baglan Bay and wind at Cefn Croes among its mix of plant.
Airbus Broughton in the north-east employs over 6,500 people, mostly in manufacturing, and is responsible for wing assembly for most Airbus aircraft, so composites and solvent areas exist alongside heavy engineering.
Two LNG terminals, South Hook on a former refinery site and Dragon LNG on a former Gulf refinery site, were built from 2006 and could eventually supply about 25% of the UK's gas needs.
“Industrial” describes a phone built for plant conditions: sealed, drop-resistant and manageable at fleet scale through Android Enterprise. It does not by itself mean the phone may enter a classified area. Only a device with a valid explosion-protection certificate and marking may do that.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to be both an industrial Android phone (IP68, 4,000 mAh battery, 50 MP camera, Android 16 with EMM and MDM support) and an intrinsically safe one. Its explosion-protection certificates are in progress and have not been issued.
In Wales (Milford Haven Waterway). Turnarounds at Pembroke and the LNG terminals bring contractors in from elsewhere, so MDM or EMM enrolment and a clean sign-in and return process matter. Operators run their own contractor approvals, which may include IT rules. Handsets would be charged in offices or control buildings away from tank and process areas.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Wales (Milford Haven Waterway) yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Yes by design: IP68 sealing, a 4,000 mAh battery, a 50 MP camera and Android 16 with EMM and MDM support. The explosion-protection certificates are separate and still in progress.
Likely candidates are refinery process units, lng storage and regasification, crude and product jetties, tank farms. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Wales (Milford Haven Waterway).
English is normally sufficient for industrial site documentation in Wales, although some public-sector bodies use bilingual material. For plant equipment, operators typically require English manuals and safety information, but confirm the expectation with each site's procurement team.
The Milford Haven Waterway in Pembrokeshire is the best-known cluster, with oil and LNG terminals, jetties and processing plants, and there are gas pipelines, power stations, chemical works and fuel depots elsewhere in south and north Wales. Zoning is site-specific, so ask each operator for area drawings.
The waterway lies at the western end of Wales, so contractors often travel in for turnarounds, and equipment must arrive and be signed in on schedule. Plan delivery, charging and device enrolment before the work starts, and ask each operator how contractor equipment is checked on arrival.
