United Arab Emirates: rules and approvals
The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology handles conformity declarations for safety, valid for one year, with a local representative required.
The IS-04Z1 is a Zone 1 and Zone 21 handset for UAE field crews and the people who equip them: offshore operators, maintenance technicians, HSE advisers and telecoms teams. TDRA type approval certificates last three years, need no local representative but a compliance mark, and a valid supplier registration is required. An industrial smartphone distributor in United Arab Emirates would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026

Jebel Ali also hosts a large power and desalination complex and an aluminium smelter alongside oil storage and bunkering terminals.
Jebel Ali, about 35 km south-west of Dubai, has the largest man-made harbour in the world, and JAFZA hosts over 8,700 companies.
The UAE stretches more than 650 km along the southern shore of the Persian Gulf, and most of the coast consists of salt pans that extend far inland.
“Industrial” describes a phone built for plant conditions: sealed, drop-resistant and manageable at fleet scale through Android Enterprise. It does not by itself mean the phone may enter a classified area. Only a device with a valid explosion-protection certificate and marking may do that.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to be both an industrial Android phone (IP68, 4,000 mAh battery, 50 MP camera, Android 16 with EMM and MDM support) and an intrinsically safe one. Its explosion-protection certificates are in progress and have not been issued.
In United Arab Emirates. UAE fleets mix operator staff with many contractors who sign equipment out at the gate and return it at demobilisation. EMM and MDM support lets the handset be controlled from the operator's own console, and connectivity follows the asset. Charging takes place in a safe area ahead of each rotation.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for United Arab Emirates. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Yes by design: IP68 sealing, a 4,000 mAh battery, a 50 MP camera and Android 16 with EMM and MDM support. The explosion-protection certificates are separate and still in progress.

Yes. Telecom equipment needs TDRA type approval, valid for three years, with a compliance mark and supplier registration; no local testing is required. Confirm the latest rules per model.
Salt pans along the coast can accelerate corrosion, and summer heat is intense inland and on the coast. Choose devices with corrosion-resistant housings, sealed connectors and high operating-temperature ratings, and rinse and dry them after exposure to salt air.
Android 16 with EMM and MDM support is designed to let IT enrol, restrict and update the unit from the operator's own console. Check compatibility with your specific EMM product during an evaluation, and agree the policy for contractors who return devices at demobilisation.
