Oman: rules and approvals
Oman's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority type approval is valid for four years, previously it had no expiry, and a local representative and compliance mark are required.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, aimed at the field operators, technicians, inspection engineers and HSE teams who work inside Oman’s classified areas. Muscat has a hot arid climate with about 10 centimetres of rain a year, falling mostly from December to April, so heat rather than rain is the main stress. An industrial smartphone distributor in Oman would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.

“Industrial” describes a phone built for plant conditions: sealed, drop-resistant and manageable at fleet scale through Android Enterprise. It does not by itself mean the phone may enter a classified area. Only a device with a valid explosion-protection certificate and marking may do that.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to be both an industrial Android phone (IP68, 4,000 mAh battery, 50 MP camera, Android 16 with EMM and MDM support) and an intrinsically safe one. Its explosion-protection certificates are in progress and have not been issued.
In Oman. A station in Block 6 can be hours from the nearest stores, so a sealed device and a battery sized for a full shift matter, with charging in a safe area. Android 16 with EMM and MDM suits managed fleets across operators and contractors, and Arabic and English can run on the same build.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Oman. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
