The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, aimed at the chemical belt along the Scheldt, the terminals at Zeebrugge and the platforms in Hainaut. This page sets out how an industrial mobile phone supply route to Belgium will work for the IS-04Z1, and what is and is not available before launch.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An industrial mobile phone for Belgium cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Belgium. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The main operators, industrial areas and sites that the SAMS Belgium market guide covers.
Chemicals, pharmaceuticals, petroleum products, metals and motor vehicle assembly feature among Belgium's industrial base, and chemicals are also a leading export, which means many process plants with flammable solvents and gases.
Fluxys is the main natural gas transmission operator, and gas imports came mainly from the Netherlands and Norway in 2021, so compressor and metering stations are part of the classified-area network.
Dutch-speaking Flanders and French-speaking Wallonia have different industrial histories and languages, and Belgium has a multilingual, well-trained workforce, so Dutch and French documents are often requested.
Industry is concentrated in Flanders in the north, around Brussels, and along the Sillon industriel through Liège and Charleroi, so hazardous-area work is split between a coastal north and an older steel and chemicals south.
“Industrial” describes a phone built for plant conditions: sealed, drop-resistant and manageable at fleet scale through Android Enterprise. It does not by itself mean the phone may enter a classified area. Only a device with a valid explosion-protection certificate and marking may do that.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to be both an industrial Android phone (IP68, 4,000 mAh battery, 50 MP camera, Android 16 with EMM and MDM support) and an intrinsically safe one. Its explosion-protection certificates are in progress and have not been issued.
In Belgium. Contractor crews rotate between Flemish and Walloon sites, and Android 16 with EMM and MDM lets camera, location services and the application list be set centrally, which matters because ordinary phones are refused at the gate on Seveso sites. Dutch and French documentation and interface suit one shared pool. Charging stays outside the zone.
Supply of the IS-04Z1 to Belgium starts only after certification, through authorised distributors. Until then a buyer can request the datasheet and the written certification schedule, and arrange a safe-area evaluation unit, which puts the site on the list for the right local channel at launch.

Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.

Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
Yes by design: IP68 sealing, a 4,000 mAh battery, a 50 MP camera and Android 16 with EMM and MDM support. The explosion-protection certificates are separate and still in progress.

Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Belgium is an EU member, so ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU applies to equipment placed on its market, and employers zone workplaces under Directive 1999/92/EC. Zone 1 and Zone 2 devices should carry the Ex and CE markings. Confirm the exact accepted categories with each site operator.
Dutch in Flanders, French in Wallonia and sometimes English at international chemical sites. Instructions are typically expected in the user's language for ATEX equipment, so ask the operator which language it expects. Bilingual documentation packs can avoid delays at gate control.
Camera control is why ordinary phones are refused at the gate on Seveso sites. Android 16 with EMM and MDM lets the camera, location services and application list be set centrally, so permissions can be shown during evaluation. Whether a site accepts it still depends on its own rules. Confirm with the operator before taking a unit in.
