Kuwait: who works there
KNPC was established in 1960, became fully government-owned in 1975, and in April 2025 Kuwait Petroleum Corporation announced its merger with KIPIC.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe handset for people who cross into classified areas in Kuwait every shift: gathering centre operators, refinery crews, inspection engineers and the HSE and telecoms teams who equip them. Summer daily highs average 42 to 46 degrees Celsius and the record is 54 degrees at Mitribah in July 2016, so heat is a constant factor for outdoor equipment. An industrial mobile phone distributor in Kuwait would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Kuwait has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Kuwait. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The classified areas, operators and sites below are the ones covered in the SAMS Kuwait market guide.
KNPC was established in 1960, became fully government-owned in 1975, and in April 2025 Kuwait Petroleum Corporation announced its merger with KIPIC.
Kuwait covers 17,820 square kilometres, about 200 km north to south and 170 km east to west, with 195 km of coastline.
Kuwait's Public Authority for Industry handles the safety registration route for electrical products, with a product registration that typically takes about a week.
CITRA type approval for wired and wireless equipment accepts CE marking and EU test standards, needs no local representative, normally takes about six weeks and lasts three years.
“Industrial” describes a phone built for plant conditions: sealed, drop-resistant and manageable at fleet scale through Android Enterprise. It does not by itself mean the phone may enter a classified area. Only a device with a valid explosion-protection certificate and marking may do that.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to be both an industrial Android phone (IP68, 4,000 mAh battery, 50 MP camera, Android 16 with EMM and MDM support) and an intrinsically safe one. Its explosion-protection certificates are in progress and have not been issued.
In Kuwait. Fleets here mix operator staff with contractors from companies such as HEISCO and Petrofac, so enrolment has to be quick. Android 16 with EMM and MDM lets a telecoms team apply one profile, with Arabic and English on the same build. Charging belongs in a safe area, because no one plugs in beside a wellhead or a tank farm.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Kuwait yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Yes by design: IP68 sealing, a 4,000 mAh battery, a 50 MP camera and Android 16 with EMM and MDM support. The explosion-protection certificates are separate and still in progress.

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Kuwait.
Kuwait Oil Company for upstream and KNPC, now merging with KIPIC, for refining, plus petrochemical and power operators. Each has its own supplier registration and equipment standards.
Yes. Telecom and radio equipment needs CITRA type approval, which accepts EU CE marking and test standards. A local representative is not required, the certificate lasts three years and processing typically takes several weeks.
Bluetooth pairing is designed so a detector and the handset can work together on one person. Sour gas facilities such as Sabriya and Umm Niqa already require detection as routine, so check the pairing and alarm procedure with the HSE team before adding any device to that practice.
