Mexico: industry on the ground
The offshore Cantarell field was discovered in 1976, started production in 1979 and peaked in 2004, so ageing offshore infrastructure is a feature of Mexican upstream work.
The IS-04Z1 is an Ex mobile phone for people working inside classified areas at Mexican refineries, offshore platforms, petrochemical plants and fuel terminals. NOM certificates of conformity, issued by bodies such as NYCE and ANCE, allow customs clearance into Mexico, and the Secretaria de Economia oversees NOM enforcement. Distribution partners for Mexico are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026

In 2025 the IFT was dissolved and replaced by the Agencia de Transformacion Digital y Telecomunicaciones, within which the Comision Reguladora de Telecomunicaciones now issues Certificates of Homologation.
Telecom and wireless products follow the PEC conformity assessment procedure, which results in a Certificate of Homologation, so older IFT references in supplier paperwork may be out of date.
Applicants are described as needing in-country testing in Mexico or at a laboratory recognised under a mutual recognition agreement, plus a local representative or importer.
“Industrial” describes a phone built for plant conditions: sealed, drop-resistant and manageable at fleet scale through Android Enterprise. It does not by itself mean the phone may enter a classified area. Only a device with a valid explosion-protection certificate and marking may do that.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to be both an industrial Android phone (IP68, 4,000 mAh battery, 50 MP camera, Android 16 with EMM and MDM support) and an intrinsically safe one. Its explosion-protection certificates are in progress and have not been issued.
In Mexico. Contractor fleets here turn over quickly, with turnaround crews from firms such as ICA Fluor and Techint arriving and leaving at short notice. Android 16 with EMM and MDM lets a telecoms team enrol, restrict and wipe devices, with Spanish from the first screen. Charging belongs in a safe area, away from the plant fence line.
A distributor for Mexico would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Yes by design: IP68 sealing, a 4,000 mAh battery, a 50 MP camera and Android 16 with EMM and MDM support. The explosion-protection certificates are separate and still in progress.

Following the 2025 changes, the Comision Reguladora de Telecomunicaciones within the Agencia de Transformacion Digital y Telecomunicaciones issues Certificates of Homologation, replacing the IFT. Check the current procedures with the CRT or an accredited body, as supplier documents may still cite IFT.
Gulf coast and offshore sites typically combine heat, high humidity, salt air and seasonal storms, so check ingress protection, corrosion resistance and operating temperature range. Confirm platform transfer rules, such as helicopter battery restrictions, with the operator before deployment.
Radio equipment needs homologación separately from hazardous area approval, and that step is in progress alongside the explosion protection programme. No approval has been granted yet. Check with the site and your telecoms team which documents they will require before any device is enrolled.
