Industrial Cell Phone Distributor in Austria

The IS-04Z1 is an ex proof phone designed to ATEX 2014/34/EU for gas and dust atmospheres, built for refinery turnarounds, gas stations on the transit grid, steel works and fibre plants. OMV opened the Schwechat refinery near Vienna in 1960, and since 1970 the Adria-Vienna Pipeline has delivered crude from the marine terminal at Trieste, Italy, to Schwechat. Distribution partners for Austria are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.

More about Austria that matters for portable equipment

Austria: who works there

Borealis, headquartered in Vienna, is Europe's second-largest polyolefins producer and a major petrochemicals company, with plants in Austria, Germany, Belgium, Finland and Sweden.

Austria: industry on the ground

Machinery and equipment, vehicles, chemicals, metals, and iron and steel are leading sectors, so chemical plants, foundries and paint and coating lines add solvent and dust hazards beyond oil and gas.

Austria: who works there

OMV AG, an integrated oil, gas and petrochemical group, is Austria's largest energy business, with a turnover of about 36 billion euros in 2021, and its refining and chemicals sites are typical Zone 1 and Zone 2 workplaces.

Austria: logistics and access

Transport used 31.3% of energy in 2021, the largest share of any sector, and the last coal plant closed in 2020, so fuel logistics and gas networks are the main thermal energy infrastructure.

The term · industrial

What “industrial” means for a smartphone

“Industrial” describes a phone built for plant conditions: sealed, drop-resistant and manageable at fleet scale through Android Enterprise. It does not by itself mean the phone may enter a classified area. Only a device with a valid explosion-protection certificate and marking may do that.

The IS-04Z1 is designed to be both an industrial Android phone (IP68, 4,000 mAh battery, 50 MP camera, Android 16 with EMM and MDM support) and an intrinsically safe one. Its explosion-protection certificates are in progress and have not been issued.

In Austria. Austrian groups run mixed estates, from OMV and Borealis to Sandoz and AGRANA, with contractors drawn across Upper Austria and from Burghausen. Android 16 with EMM and MDM support allows enrolment, restricted application sets, and wiping at handover. The interface is available in German, with German documentation. No charger belongs inside the zone, so charging is in safe areas.

The route · distribution

Distributing the IS-04Z1 in Austria

SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Austria yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.

What SAMS looks for in a partner

Operator relationships
Existing supplier registrations or a clear route to them with the main operators and contractors in Austria.
Ex-competent staff
People who understand zone classification, markings and the conditions of a certificate.

And equally important

Local-language support
Documentation, training and helpdesk in the languages the workforce uses.
Service capability
Spares, battery replacement and repair routed through SAMS-approved channels.
Questions · Austria

Frequently asked questions

Can we buy an industrial cell phone in Austria today?

No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.

What does an industrial cell phone in Austria cost?

No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.

Is the IS-04Z1 an industrial phone as well as an Ex phone?

Yes by design: IP68 sealing, a 4,000 mAh battery, a 50 MP camera and Android 16 with EMM and MDM support. The explosion-protection certificates are separate and still in progress.

Which sites in Austria does this cover?

The market guide for Austria covers Schwechat, Baumgarten an der March, Linz, Donawitz and Leoben, among others. Site-level pages are linked below.

How do I become a SAMS distributor for Austria?

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Austria.

Which industries in Austria have classified areas besides oil and gas?

Chemical production, metalworking, paint and coating, food processing with dust, sewage treatment and energy supply all feature in Austria's industrial mix. Each employer must assess and zone its own workplace, so ask for the explosion protection document before bringing in new devices.

What language should device documents be in for Austrian sites?

German is the working language, and ATEX instructions are typically expected in the language of the destination country. A German-language manual and certificate pack typically makes site acceptance easier. Ask the operator whether English documentation is also acceptable on its premises.

Is German documentation needed for Austrian acceptance?

Austrian acceptance treats German documentation as a condition, so the manual, safe-use instructions and declaration of conformity are planned in German alongside English, with a German interface on Android 16. The certification programme is in progress and nothing has been issued. Check the exact requirement with your safety officer.
