Tengizchevroil: geography and layout
Tengizchevroil holds the right to develop the Tengiz and Korolevskoye oil fields, which lie in the north-eastern part of the Caspian Sea basin in western Kazakhstan.
Tengizchevroil is a joint venture developing the Tengiz and Korolevskoye fields in the Atyrau region of Kazakhstan. Its shareholders are Chevron (50%), ExxonMobil (25%) and KazMunayGas (20%), with a further minority holder (5%). First oil from its Future Growth Project Third-Generation Plant came in January 2025. Buyers searching for an IECEx smartphone supplier for Tengizchevroil can take the datasheet and the certification schedule for the IS-04Z1 now; supply follows certification.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An IECEx smartphone for Tengizchevroil cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Kazakhstan. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

TCO's procurement favours qualified Kazakhstani contractors (over 1,250 contracts awarded to local firms on the Future Growth Project); confirm current supplier requirements with TCO. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.
Tengizchevroil holds the right to develop the Tengiz and Korolevskoye oil fields, which lie in the north-eastern part of the Caspian Sea basin in western Kazakhstan.
Chevron holds 50%, ExxonMobil 25% and KazMunayGas 20%, with a minority partner holding the remainder, so contractor standards are shaped by international majors as well as the national company.
Tengizchevroil completed the Future Growth Project-Wellhead Pressure Management Project in 2025, designed to add 260,000 barrels a day at full capacity and take total Tengiz output to roughly one million barrels of oil equivalent a day.
Output reached a record 27.1 million tonnes of oil in 2013 and about 30 million tonnes in 2019, showing a large continuous process operation with extensive classified areas.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In Tengizchevroil. The Tengiz joint venture has international shareholders and contractor teams, so its reviewers are used to IECEx documents. They look for a certificate of conformity and its schedule of conditions. The IS-04Z1 is targeting IECEx, which is in progress, so Tengizchevroil staff should treat it as a planned route and not a held approval.
Nothing can be bought for Tengizchevroil today: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, and SAMS will supply end users through authorised distributors once certificates exist. What a buyer can do now is take the specification, ask for the written certification schedule and arrange a safe-area evaluation, so that the right local channel contacts you at launch.

Which certificates are in progress, in what order, and what is still to be confirmed.
Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.

Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.
TCO's procurement favours qualified Kazakhstani contractors (over 1,250 contracts awarded to local firms on the Future Growth Project); confirm current supplier requirements with TCO.
Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Continental climates around the north Caspian typically bring very cold winters and hot, dusty summers. For handheld devices this means checking operating temperature range, battery behaviour in cold, and ingress protection against dust. Confirm the site's temperature limits with the operator.
Tengiz is a large Caspian oil field, and sour hydrocarbon handling is common in such operations, so gas-detection and hazardous-area discipline matter. Whether specific areas are classified Zone 1 or Zone 2 is decided per installation, so confirm each work area's classification with the operator.
Its procurement is reported to favour qualified Kazakhstani contractors, with many contracts awarded to local firms on its Future Growth Project. A foreign manufacturer would normally work through local partners. Ask the company for current supplier requirements; the IS-04Z1 has no certificate yet and SAMS has appointed no distributor.
