Where it is designed to work in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan's classified areas are concentrated in the west, around the Tengiz, Kashagan and Karachaganak fields and the Atyrau industrial zone, with refining at Pavlodar and Shymkent and a large coal and metals industry around Karaganda and Ekibastuz.

Operators and contractors such as KazMunayGas, Tengizchevroil and North Caspian Operating Company need an explosion proof mobile phone they can carry into classified areas at Tengiz, Atyrau region, Atyrau and Kashagan and Bolashak, North Caspian. The IS-04Z1 is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 duty there.

Built for local conditions

Built for Kazakh operating conditions

Kazakhstan is a market of extremes: steppe winters far below freezing, hot summers, wind-driven dust, and sites hundreds of kilometres from a city.

For evaluators in Kazakhstan, the IS-04Z1 explosion proof mobile phone is designed around these points: Steppe winters and summer heat; Sour gas and the right gas group; Coal dust and Zone 21; A long shift in the cold; Remote sites and long distances; Control over a large fleet.

Battery4,000 mAh

Steppe winters and summer heat

Ambients swing from deep winter cold to summer heat on the same site. The certified ambient range is stated on the certificate and will be published when it is issued; check it against your coldest shift before planning winter use.

Sour gas and the right gas group

Tengiz and Karachaganak process gas with high hydrogen sulphide, a toxic hazard as well as a flammable one. A marking target of Ex ib IIC covers the gas groups involved; personal gas detection remains a separate requirement.

Coal dust and Zone 21

Coal handling, conveying and processing around Karaganda and Ekibastuz create Zone 21 dust areas, which the design covers. Underground mining is equipment Group I and outside this device's scope.

A long shift in the cold

Cold shortens any battery's working time and there is no safe area socket mid shift. The 4,000 mAh battery is sized for a working day, and safe area charging instructions are part of the documentation.

Remote sites and long distances

Between plant, camp and wellsite the carrier signal can thin out. The device falls back to plant Wi-Fi, and four constellation GNSS fixes a position on open steppe.

Control over a large fleet

Handsets pass between operator staff and contractors. Android 16 with EMM and MDM support gives enrolment, remote lock and remote wipe, with Russian and Kazakh language settings.

Approvals in Kazakhstan

Certification programme ahead of Q4 2026 launch.

Kazakhstan is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, so Ex equipment needs EAC Ex certification under TR CU 012/2011 before it is placed on the market. That certification builds on the IECEx report, which is in progress; EAC Ex follows it.

What your HSE and procurement teams will ask for.

Kazakhstan applies the Eurasian Economic Union technical regulation TR CU 012/2011 on equipment for explosive atmospheres. Ex equipment placed on the market needs an EAC Ex certificate of conformity issued by a certification body accredited in the Union, and carries the EAC and Ex markings. In practice the IECEx test report is the technical basis for that work, which is why IECEx comes first in the programme.

Operator specifications at Tengiz, Kashagan and Karachaganak also ask for the IECEx or ATEX certificate, so both sets of documents travel with the device. Radio equipment needs its own approval for use on Kazakh networks, the large operators run local content programmes that favour supply through Kazakh companies, and documentation in Russian and Kazakh is expected.

Use cases · Kazakhstan

Where the IS-04Z1 explosion proof mobile phone goes to work.

Typical Zone 1 and Zone 21 duty for the IS-04Z1 explosion proof mobile phone in Kazakhstan includes: Field and plant rounds at Tengiz and Karachaganak; Kashagan islands and the Bolashak plant; Turnarounds at Atyrau, Pavlodar and Shymkent; Coal handling and processing plants.

Upstream01

Field and plant rounds at Tengiz and Karachaganak

Sour gas plants spread over large sites, and a query needing a photograph can cost a drive across the field. A permitted handset means the image, the reading and the call happen at the equipment.

Offshore02

Kashagan islands and the Bolashak plant

Crews on the artificial islands and at Bolashak work fixed rotations in a demanding environment. A Zone 1 handset lets technicians close permits and log defects where they work.

Refining03

Turnarounds at Atyrau, Pavlodar and Shymkent

Refinery shutdowns concentrate contractor hours into short windows across a classified process area. Supervisors clear hold points from the work front.

Mining and coal04

Coal handling and processing plants

Surface coal handling, preparation and conveying create Zone 21 dust areas. Shift teams report plant condition with photographs and coordinates as they find it.

How to buy · Kazakhstan

How to evaluate and buy in Kazakhstan

Nothing ships before certification completes. Here that means EAC Ex as well as IECEx, so plan your rollout around the EAC Ex date.

  1. 01

Send the site details and operator specification

Tell us the zone, the gas group, the temperature class and where the fleet will work, and send the operator device clause if there is one.

  2. 02

Take the datasheet and certificate schedule

You get the technical datasheet and a written schedule of which certifications are in progress and in what order, ready to attach to a technical bid.

  3. 03

Book an evaluation unit or join the pilot programme

Once certification permits release, units go to sites that have registered a requirement. A pilot with your own SIM, MDM and permit system settles what a specification comparison cannot.

  4. 04

    Supply through a Kazakh partner

Supply runs through a locally registered partner with operator vendor registrations, with the EAC Ex certificate, radio approval and import documents handled as part of delivery. Tell us your mobilisation date.

Questions · Kazakhstan

Frequently asked questions

Asking about a site in Kazakhstan?

Send your site, zone and gas group, and we will answer for your plant rather than in general.

Ask about Kazakhstan →
Is the IS-04Z1 approved for use in Kazakhstan yet?

No. The device is pre-launch: IECEx certification is in progress and EAC Ex certification follows it. Nothing should be planned into a classified area until the certificates exist.

Do I need EAC Ex certification in Kazakhstan?

Yes. As a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, Kazakhstan requires Ex equipment placed on its market to hold an EAC Ex certificate under TR CU 012/2011. It is in the programme, sequenced after IECEx.

Will it work through a Kazakh winter?

Only within its certified ambient temperature range, which is stated on the certificate and will be published when it is issued. Check it against your coldest outdoor shift before planning winter use.

Is it suitable for underground coal mines?

No. Underground mining is equipment Group I, a separate category from the surface industry Group II that this device targets. Surface coal handling and processing areas classified as Zone 1 or Zone 21 are within scope.

Does it replace a gas detector on sour gas sites?

No. The Ex rating means the phone will not ignite a flammable atmosphere; it does not detect hydrogen sulphide. Carry personal gas monitors as your site rules require.

Is documentation available in Russian and Kazakh?

Yes. The user manual and safe use instructions will be supplied in Russian and Kazakh, as EAC conformity expects, and MDM profiles can be configured in either language.

When will units be available, and who repairs them?

Launch is Q4 2026, with supply in Kazakhstan following EAC Ex. Warranty and service run through the Kazakh partner SAMS is appointing, and repair of certified Ex equipment must be done by a recognised facility.

What is the price of an explosion proof phone in Kazakhstan?

No list price is published before the certificates exist. Pricing is quoted in writing against quantity and configuration through the Kazakh partner, and landed cost depends on EAC Ex and import steps, so it is set with the channel rather than published.
