EGAS: background
EGAS is a state-owned holding company established in August 2001 that owns and manages state stakes in gas projects, with its headquarters in Nasr City, Cairo, and it is owned by EGPC.
EGAS is Egypt's state-owned natural gas holding company, established in August 2001 and based in Nasr City, Cairo. It works under the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, oversees exploration agreements in Mediterranean and Nile Delta concessions, and manages gas grid, LNG and regasification activity. This page sets out how an IECEx smartphone supply route to EGAS will work for the IS-04Z1, and what is and is not available before launch.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An IECEx smartphone for EGAS cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Egypt. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The main sites and the hazardous-area types a portable device is likely to meet at this organisation.
EGAS publishes supplier registration forms and guides, and an LNG supplier register with published criteria, on its website (egas.com.eg); confirm current procedures with EGAS directly. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.
EGAS is a state-owned holding company established in August 2001 that owns and manages state stakes in gas projects, with its headquarters in Nasr City, Cairo, and it is owned by EGPC.
BP's West Nile Delta development, announced in 2015 with a 12 billion dollar investment, processes offshore gas onshore and was expected to supply about a quarter of Egypt's gas, with the Atoll field producing from 2018.
EGAS's own timeline records the first commercial gas discovery at the Abu Madi field in 1970, household gas distribution from 1980 and the first local distribution company, Egypt Gas, in 1983.
The Zohr gas field, found in 2015 about 190 km north of Port Said, is estimated to hold around 30 trillion cubic feet of gas, and production began in December 2017.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In EGAS. EGAS oversees exploration agreements in Mediterranean and Nile Delta concessions, so international operators and their contractors often arrive with IECEx documents. A certificate of conformity with its schedule of conditions gives EGAS reviewers and these operators a shared reference. The IS-04Z1 is designed for IECEx, which is still in progress.
Supply of the IS-04Z1 to EGAS starts only after certification, through authorised distributors. Until then a buyer can request the datasheet and the written certification schedule, and arrange a safe-area evaluation unit, which puts the site on the list for the right local channel at launch.

Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.

Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.
EGAS publishes supplier registration forms and guides, and an LNG supplier register with published criteria, on its website (egas.com.eg); confirm current procedures with EGAS directly.
Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Egypt's gas and oil sites range from humid Mediterranean coast and Nile Delta locations to hot, dusty desert areas. For handheld devices check dust and water ingress protection, high temperature rating and corrosion resistance, and confirm each site's own environmental requirements.
EGAS is a holding company that owns state stakes and issues licences, so day-to-day equipment purchases are normally made by the operating companies and joint ventures that run each field or plant. Identify the operator of the site and ask its procurement and HSE teams for requirements.
EGAS publishes supplier registration forms and guides, and an LNG supplier register with published criteria, on egas.com.eg. Procedures change, so confirm them with EGAS directly. The IS-04Z1 is in certification and has no certificate, which any registration must state honestly.
