PTT: background
PTT was established on 29 December 1978 as the Petroleum Authority of Thailand, and was corporatised and re-registered as PTT Public Company Limited on 1 October 2001, listing on the Stock Exchange of Thailand that December.
PTT opened the Bangchak oil refinery in Bangkok in 1985 and built a nationwide network of fuel distribution outlets, adding refinery and retail forecourt areas to its estate. It runs submarine gas pipelines in the Gulf of Thailand and the gas separation plants at Map Ta Phut, and controls group companies in exploration, petrochemicals and refining. If you are specifying an IECEx smartphone for PTT, this page covers the markings, the approvals and the current certification status of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for PTT: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Thailand. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of its operations and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
Supplier registration and equipment approval are run by the organisation itself; confirm current requirements with its procurement and HSE teams. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.
PTT was established on 29 December 1978 as the Petroleum Authority of Thailand, and was corporatised and re-registered as PTT Public Company Limited on 1 October 2001, listing on the Stock Exchange of Thailand that December.
The headquarters is on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road in Chatuchak, Bangkok, while its key assets are offshore in the Gulf of Thailand and at industrial sites, so site contacts are separate from head office.
Affiliated companies include PTT Exploration and Production, PTT Global Chemical and PTT Green Energy, so upstream, petrochemical and power sites each have their own operating teams and procurement.
PTT owns extensive submarine gas pipelines in the Gulf of Thailand and a network of LPG terminals across the country, so offshore pipelines and LPG storage sites are key hazardous-area locations.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In PTT. At Map Ta Phut, international EPCs and licensors work alongside PTT group companies, and many are familiar with IECEx. A reviewer should read the certificate of conformity with its schedule of conditions. The IS-04Z1 is designed for IECEx, and certification is in progress.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.
Supplier registration and equipment approval are run by the organisation itself; confirm current requirements with its procurement and HSE teams.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
Typical sites include offshore production platforms and gas receiving terminals, LPG terminals, refineries, petrochemical complexes and fuel stations. Zoning is facility-specific, so ask the operating subsidiary's HSE team for area classification drawings and its portable-electronics rules before specifying devices.
Because most employees and operations sit in subsidiaries such as PTT Exploration and Production or PTT Global Chemical, each often runs its own procurement and HSE approval. Identify the operating company for the site and confirm its supplier registration and certification requirements.
Not necessarily. The sheet notes that refining and petrochemicals are run by group companies, not PTT itself, and that supplier registration and equipment approval are run by the organisation. Confirm which entity applies with its procurement and HSE teams. The IS-04Z1 has no certificate yet.
