The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.
ENAP lists the main units at its Aconcagua refinery as including topping and vacuum, catalytic cracking, delayed coking, hydrocracking, alkylation, isomerisation, sulphuric acid and sulphur plants, with a flare system and its own emergency response brigade and fire station.
The company is state-owned and based in Las Condes, Santiago, while its original oil exploration area lies far south in Tierra del Fuego and the Strait of Magellan.
ENAP Sipetrol, the international exploration and production subsidiary founded in 1990, has operations in Argentina, Ecuador and Egypt, so equipment standards may differ between Chilean and overseas assets.

IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In ENAP. ENAP runs all of Chile's refining capacity, and refinery projects often bring in international EPCs and contractors accustomed to IECEx documents. A certificate of conformity with its schedule of conditions gives ENAP reviewers and these visitors the same document to compare. The IS-04Z1 is designed for IECEx, which is still in progress.

While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.

Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
Chile is seismically active and two of the refineries are coastal, so sites typically apply robust fixing, corrosion protection and emergency procedures. For handheld devices this means checking drop resistance and sealing. Confirm each site's conditions and rules with the refinery directly.
The three refineries at Aconcagua, Bio Bio and Gregorio are the main process sites, with storage and loading areas, and the southern production areas are another. Zoning is decided per installation, so ask ENAP's HSE or maintenance teams for area classification drawings before specifying devices.
