Pertamina: rules and approvals
Like other contractors, Pertamina holds a cooperation contract with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Body, and it falls under the coordination of the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises.
Pertamina was created in August 1968 by merging Pertamin and Permina, and in 2003 it became a limited company, PT Pertamina (Persero), under the 2001 Oil and Natural Gas Act. It covers upstream oil and gas, refining, gas, shipping and fuel distribution through subholdings, and operates six refineries. If you are specifying an IECEx mobile phone for Pertamina, this page covers the markings, the approvals and the current certification status of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for Pertamina: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Indonesia. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

Pertamina lists a general procurement programme and an e-procurement system (GEPSMART) on its website; confirm current vendor requirements with Pertamina. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.
Like other contractors, Pertamina holds a cooperation contract with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Body, and it falls under the coordination of the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises.
The company is headquartered in Jakarta, while its major refineries and LNG plants are in West Java, East Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi and Aceh, so travel between sites often involves flights.
PT Badak LNG operates a plant at Bontang in East Kalimantan with 8 trains and a total capacity of 22.5 million tonnes a year, in which Pertamina has invested through an operating company.
As of 2013 Pertamina operated six oil refineries with a combined capacity of around one million barrels a day, and it has not built a new refinery since Balongan in West Java opened in the mid-1990s.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In Pertamina. Pertamina's refineries draw visiting contractors and licensors from abroad, and these usually think in IECEx terms. For them the evidence is a certificate of conformity plus its schedule of conditions. The IS-04Z1 is targeting IECEx, currently in progress, so a Pertamina reviewer should read it as a planned route rather than an approval already held.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.

Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
Bahasa Indonesia is the national working language, so safety instructions and training for hazardous-area equipment are normally expected in Indonesian, with English often accepted for engineering review. Confirm the language required with Pertamina's procurement and HSE teams.
Likely places include refineries such as Balongan, LNG plants like Bontang and Donggi Senoro, fuel terminals and tanker jetties. Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas exist around process units, loading and storage. Classification is site-specific, so ask each facility's HSE team for area drawings.
Heat and humidity are routine, and IP68 sealing protects the housing from moisture and rain. Battery life still falls in high temperatures, so test the 4,000 mAh battery under local conditions. IP68 is not an explosion rating. Ask the site HSE team how portable devices are charged and stored.
