IECEx Mobile Phone Distributor in Romania

The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for Romanian refineries, well sites, gas plants and port terminals rather than for an office. Gas production is around 25 million cubic metres a day, with about 100 billion cubic metres of onshore reserves and an estimated 40 billion offshore, so both Carpathian-area fields and Black Sea sites matter. Distribution partners for Romania are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.

More about Romania that matters for portable equipment

Romania: infrastructure

Two reactors at Cernavodă generate about 18-20% of Romanian electricity, and the country also has substantial coal deposits and considerable hydroelectric capacity, so mines, dams and power plants all feature.

Romania: industry on the ground

Romania had five refineries left by 2018 with about 13.7 million tonnes a year of capacity, far above domestic demand, and exports lubricants, bitumen, fertilisers and petrochemicals across the region.

Romania: projects and investment

Neptun Deep, about 160 km off the Romanian coast in 100 to 1,000 m of water, is owned 50/50 by OMV Petrom and Romgaz, is budgeted at about 4 billion euros and targets 8 billion cubic metres of gas a year.

Romania: infrastructure

The national gas transmission system is owned by the state company Transgaz and interconnector pipelines link Romania with Hungary, Bulgaria and Ukraine, so border compressor and metering stations are part of the network.

What “IECEx” means for a smartphone

IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.

The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.

In Romania. IECEx matters in Romania chiefly through the international groups and visiting contractors that work beside OMV Petrom, Romgaz and Rompetrol Rafinare during projects such as Neptun Deep. A certificate of conformity with its schedule of conditions would let their safety teams compare the handset against a common reference. That certificate is still in progress for the IS-04Z1.

Distributing the IS-04Z1 in Romania

SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Romania yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.

What SAMS looks for in a partner

Operator relationships
Existing supplier registrations or a clear route to them with the main operators and contractors in Romania.
Ex-competent staff
People who understand zone classification, markings and the conditions of a certificate.

And equally important

Local-language support
Documentation, training and helpdesk in the languages the workforce uses.
Service capability
Spares, battery replacement and repair routed through SAMS-approved channels.
Questions · Romania

Frequently asked questions

Can we buy an IECEx mobile phone in Romania today?

Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.

What does an IECEx mobile phone in Romania cost?

SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.

Does the IS-04Z1 hold an IECEx certificate?

No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.

Which sites in Romania does this cover?

The market guide for Romania covers Ploiești and Brazi, Năvodari, Constanța, Vadu and Corbu, among others. Site-level pages are linked below.

How do I become a SAMS distributor for Romania?

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Romania.

How do Romanian winters affect Ex handheld devices?

Continental winters can bring sub-zero temperatures, which cut battery capacity and can make touchscreens harder to use with gloves. Check the lowest rated ambient temperature on the certificate and plan spare batteries and warm storage for outdoor work at pipeline stations and refineries.

Where is hazardous-area work concentrated in Romania?

Refineries, gas fields and compressor stations, Black Sea offshore fields, chemical works and power plants are the main examples. Five refineries remained by 2018 with spare capacity for export. Confirm site lists with each operator and ask for its zone drawings.

Can the IS-04Z1 keep a position fix at an isolated Romanian well site?

It is designed with four-constellation GNSS, 4G LTE and Wi-Fi so a lone worker at a well site or compressor station can be located and stay connected. Real coverage depends on the mobile network at the site, so test it on your own field route during an evaluation.
