Climate
Hot desert climate with long, extremely hot summers, so handset heat tolerance matters for outdoor rounds.
Doha is Qatar's capital and houses over 40 per cent of the country's population. Zone 1 demand comes mainly from the industrial cities outside it: Mesaieed, about 36 km to the south, and Ras Laffan, about 80 km to the north. Distribution partners for Doha are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Doha has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Doha. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of the site and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
Hot desert climate with long, extremely hot summers, so handset heat tolerance matters for outdoor rounds.
Mesaieed and Ras Laffan are a drive from the capital, so contractors and service teams are often based in Doha.
About 80 per cent of Qatar's population lives in Doha or its suburbs, so most service teams, buyers and contractors are based in the capital rather than at the plants.
Mesaieed and its industrial area are run by Mesaieed Industry City Management, a QatarEnergy subdivision set up in 1996, so site entry rules there come from that body and each tenant.
The Communications Regulatory Authority announced that 3G mobile services in Qatar end by 31 December 2025, so devices used in the field should work on 4G or 5G networks.
Qatar's Communications Regulatory Authority in Doha assesses radio equipment under a conformity approach modelled on the European one, so EU documents are normally the starting point for handset approval.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In Doha. Doha hosts the offices of many contractors and service teams that travel to the industrial cities. For them, IECEx matters as the scheme that international operators and EPCs recognise across borders. The relevant documents would be the certificate of conformity and its schedule of conditions. None has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet; it remains a certification target.
A distributor for Doha would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.
Likely candidates are petrochemical, refinery and fertiliser plants at mesaieed, lng and gas processing at ras laffan, port and fuel storage areas. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Doha.
Mostly outside the city, at Mesaieed to the south and Ras Laffan to the north, plus port and fuel-storage areas. Doha is where most contractors and buyers are based, so purchasing and service happen there while Zone 1 work is at the plants.
No. Qatar's regulator said 3G services would be discontinued by the end of 2025, so devices should support current 4G or 5G bands. Check the operator coverage inside the plant, since some process areas have limited signal.
Equipment approval and vendor registration are run by QatarEnergy and each plant operator, so requirements differ between sites. Radio and telecoms terminals also fall under type approval by the Communications Regulatory Authority. Confirm the current requirements with the site operator before ordering anything for a Qatar plant.
