Angola LNG Limited is owned by Sonangol, Chevron, TotalEnergies and Azule Energy, so the Soyo site combines several shareholders' operating practices.
The Soyo plant uses ConocoPhillips' Optimized Cascade liquefaction process and also produces propane, butane and condensate, which means pressurised hydrocarbon storage and loading areas.
Sonangol was created as a state company in 1976 after the nationalisation of ANGOL, and later grew subsidiaries in seismic, engineering, shipping and telecommunications services.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In Angola. For Angola's offshore fleet the IECEx scheme links the operators, FPSO owners and marine contractors who share crews across several countries. The reviewer reads the certificate of conformity for the marking, then the schedule of conditions for anything restricting use on a helideck, process deck or at the Soyo LNG jetty. SAMS holds no certificate yet.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Angola yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.

Large sites such as Angola LNG have several shareholders and an operating company that sets site HSE rules, which may follow one partner's standards. Confirm which standards and approved-equipment lists the operating company applies before you ship devices to Angola.
A single-train LNG plant typically has liquefaction, gas treatment, propane and butane storage, condensate handling and marine loading areas, all of which are normally classified as hazardous. The operator issues the zone drawings, so request them with the gas group and temperature class before choosing equipment.
It is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 duty, with a target marking of II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4, but certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued. Offshore use would depend on the operator's own equipment approval and the schedule of conditions. Confirm with the FPSO operator before any deck use.
