Turkey: logistics and access
Turkey mines its own lignite but imports three-quarters of its energy, including half its coal and almost all the oil and gas it needs, so ports, pipelines and storage terminals are central.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for refinery and petrochemical work at Aliağa and on the Marmara, gas terminal and pipeline operations, and the fertiliser and chemical plants inside the organised industrial zones. Black Sea gas is forecast to meet all residential demand from the late 2020s, which implies new offshore and onshore gas processing and pipeline work. A hazardous area smartphone distributor in Turkey would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Turkey has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Turkey. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The classified areas, operators and sites below are the ones covered in the SAMS Turkey market guide.
Turkey mines its own lignite but imports three-quarters of its energy, including half its coal and almost all the oil and gas it needs, so ports, pipelines and storage terminals are central.
Tüpraş operates four refineries handling about 30 million tonnes of crude a year, with Izmit and Izmir (Aliağa) at 11 million tonnes each, Kırıkkale at 5 million and Batman at 1.1 million.
A nuclear power plant is under construction and about half of installed power capacity is renewable, so construction and commissioning sites are active alongside existing plants.
Electricity supplies about 20% of Turkey's energy and comes mainly from coal, gas and hydro, with a small but growing share from wind, solar and geothermal.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Turkey. Turkish classified areas follow the coast and then turn inland: Aliağa north of İzmir, the Marmara with the Körfez refinery and Kocaeli, Ceyhan on the Mediterranean, and Kırıkkale and Batman inland. The operator classifies each area. SAMS does not classify any area and designs only for a stated one.
A distributor for Turkey would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.
The market guide for Turkey covers Aliağa, Körfez and Kocaeli, Marmara Ereğlisi, Ceyhan, among others. Site-level pages are linked below.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Turkey.
Refining and petrochemical complexes, gas and crude oil pipelines, LNG and fuel terminals, coal and lignite mines and power stations are the main examples, and Black Sea gas is a growing area. Request zone drawings from each operator, as classifications are site specific.
Turkey has aligned its equipment rules with the EU ATEX approach, but its own conformity marking and local requirements may apply to products placed on its market. Confirm the current requirement with the site operator or your importer before ordering, and ask about documentation language.
The T4 target and certified ambient range will be published with the datasheet and certificate, which are in progress. IP68 sealing and a rugged build cover salt, dust and wash-down. Check the range against peak summer temperatures at your tank farm before specifying.
