Romania: who works there
Petrom was privatised in late 2004 and sold to the Austrian company OMV, the largest privatisation deal in Romania's history at the time, and has been named OMV Petrom since 2010.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for Romanian refineries, well sites, gas plants and port terminals rather than for an office. Neptun Deep, about 160 km off the Romanian coast in 100 to 1,000 m of water, is owned 50/50 by OMV Petrom and Romgaz, is budgeted at about 4 billion euros and targets 8 billion cubic metres of gas a year. Distribution partners for Romania are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Romania has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

Gas production is around 25 million cubic metres a day, with about 100 billion cubic metres of onshore reserves and an estimated 40 billion offshore, so both Carpathian-area fields and Black Sea sites matter.
Two reactors at Cernavodă generate about 18-20% of Romanian electricity, and the country also has substantial coal deposits and considerable hydroelectric capacity, so mines, dams and power plants all feature.
Romania had five refineries left by 2018 with about 13.7 million tonnes a year of capacity, far above domestic demand, and exports lubricants, bitumen, fertilisers and petrochemicals across the region.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Romania. Hazardous-area classification in Romania runs from the Prahova valley refineries to the Black Sea terminals at Constanța and the inland chemical plants at Borzești and Râmnicu Vâlcea. The operator or site owner defines the zones and gas groups on its drawings. SAMS does not classify any area; it designs a device for a stated classification.
A distributor for Romania would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Romania.
Continental winters can bring sub-zero temperatures, which cut battery capacity and can make touchscreens harder to use with gloves. Check the lowest rated ambient temperature on the certificate and plan spare batteries and warm storage for outdoor work at pipeline stations and refineries.
Refineries, gas fields and compressor stations, Black Sea offshore fields, chemical works and power plants are the main examples. Five refineries remained by 2018 with spare capacity for export. Confirm site lists with each operator and ask for its zone drawings.
It is designed with four-constellation GNSS, 4G LTE and Wi-Fi so a lone worker at a well site or compressor station can be located and stay connected. Real coverage depends on the mobile network at the site, so test it on your own field route during an evaluation.
