Monsoon seasons affect access and weather windows.
The East Natuna gas field in the South China Sea is believed to hold about 46 trillion cubic feet of proven gas, one of the biggest reserves in Southeast Asia, though development has been long delayed. Platforms, FPSOs and drilling rigs are classified hazardous areas. A hazardous area smartphone distributor in Indonesian offshore oil and gas fields would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Indonesian offshore oil and gas fields has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Indonesia Offshore Rigs. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

Reports describe an FPSO designed for 1 billion standard cubic feet of gas a day, in about 2,000 metres of water, with first steel cut in July 2026 and commercial production targeted for the fourth quarter of 2028.
The Masela block, east of Timor island, was described as likely to become Indonesia's biggest deepwater gas project, with over 10 trillion cubic feet of gas and an estimated 14 to 19 billion dollars of investment.
Indonesia was a significant oil exporter in the 1980s, but since 2000 consumption has risen while production has fallen, so offshore and mature-field drilling carries national importance.
Indonesia is said to have around 60 sedimentary basins, of which only 22 have been explored and exploited, so offshore drilling remains an active frontier for new fields.
About 80 per cent of people in the Natuna islands are of Malay origin, and Terengganuan Malay is used alongside Indonesian, which matters for hiring and site communication near the offshore gas area.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Indonesian offshore oil and gas fields. Offshore platforms, FPSO process and storage areas, drilling rigs and wellheads are classified hazardous areas. The operator and its facilities contractors classify them, not SAMS. A buyer should request the zone drawings for the specific asset before comparing equipment markings.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Indonesian offshore oil and gas fields. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.
Likely candidates are offshore production platforms, fpso process and storage areas, drilling rigs, wellhead areas. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Indonesian offshore oil and gas fields.
Usually not into classified areas. Offshore installations normally restrict personal electronics to safe areas unless a device carries the certification the operator accepts for the relevant zone and gas group. Ask the operator for its portable-electronics policy before mobilising.
Warm temperatures, high humidity, salt spray and heavy squalls are typical, so devices usually need good ingress protection, corrosion-resistant ports and sealed battery compartments. Check the rating against the rig's environment and the operator's specification.
Yes, because monsoon seasons affect access and weather windows, so spares and crew changes may be delayed. Plan extra devices and charging in a safe area. Salt and humidity also matter for seals. Confirm logistics with the operator's offshore team.
