Germany: logistics and access
Norway supplied the largest share of both Germany's gas and crude oil imports in 2025, and German LNG terminals accounted for 10.3% of natural gas imports, so LNG import sites are a new classified-area category.
The IS-04Z1 is an eigensicheres Smartphone designed to ATEX 2014/34/EU for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for the chemical parks, refineries and pharmaceutical plants where most German Ex-Schutz work happens. Manufacturers may self-certify ATEX Category 3 equipment with a technical dossier including a user manual in the local language, while Category 1 and 2 generally need a notified body. A hazardous area smartphone distributor in Germany would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Germany has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Germany. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

Norway supplied the largest share of both Germany's gas and crude oil imports in 2025, and German LNG terminals accounted for 10.3% of natural gas imports, so LNG import sites are a new classified-area category.
Germany plans to phase out coal-fired electricity generation by 2038 at the latest and aims for renewables to supply at least 80% of gross electricity consumption by 2030.
Germany imported 96% of its petroleum and 89% of its natural gas in 2025, and imports covered 65.6% of its total energy needs, so ports, pipelines and storage terminals are central.
Domestic hard coal production ended in 2018, so all hard coal is imported, adding port coal-handling and rail-transfer sites to Germany's dust-hazard areas.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Germany. German classified areas include chemical parks, refineries such as Karlsruhe and Schwedt, pharmaceutical plants, and LNG terminals at Wilhelmshaven and Brunsbüttel. The operator sets and documents each zone for gas and for dust. SAMS does not classify any area; the device is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Germany yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.
The market guide for Germany covers Ludwigshafen, Leverkusen, Marl, Frankfurt Höchst, among others. Site-level pages are linked below.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Germany.
German LNG terminals supplied about 10.3% of natural gas imports in 2025, and crude, products and coal arrive through ports and pipelines. Individual terminal locations and rules change, so confirm the current list and each operator's contractor requirements before planning work.
Lignite is mined in North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony and Brandenburg and burned at nearby power plants, so coal dust, conveyor and bunker areas are typical dust zones. Choose devices with a dust group marking suited to the area classification, and check with the operator.
Acceptance is the decision of the operator and its approved inspection body. ATEX is the usual reference for equipment in the EU, and IECEx papers may support a review. Ask the site's explosion protection officer which evidence they require before ordering.
