Large works run their own contractor induction and permit-to-work systems, so access to classified areas is arranged through each operator.
Borlänge Central is a railway junction for routes toward Falun, Mora and Ludvika and links to Gävle and Stockholm, and Dala Airport lies 8 km south-east, with Arlanda 214 km away. Steel and paper processing involve fuel gas, chemicals and fine dust, so Zone 1 and Zone 21 classification can apply in plant areas. A hazardous area smartphone distributor in Borlänge would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Borlänge has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Borlänge. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

Humid continental climate with cold winters (January averages about -1 degrees C), so outdoor rounds in winter call for cold-tolerant batteries and gloved operation.
Construction of the Domnarvet ironworks began in 1872, and a railway between Falun and Ludvika via Borlänge opened in 1875, making the town a strategic junction for the works.
The town lies on the Dalälven river downstream of the confluence of the Österdalälven and Västerdalälven, and it is the largest urban centre in the province of Dalarna, with about 44,900 residents in 2020.
SSAB describes its Borlänge works, established in 1878, as its largest strip rolling system, making hot-rolled and cold-rolled high-strength steel for automotive, heavy-duty transport, lifting and container uses, with around 1,700 employees.
The four blast furnaces and two Kaldo converters at Domnarvet were shut down in 1981, and the site since then has developed around its hot strip rolling mill.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Borlänge. Borlänge's classified areas include fuel and process gas systems, chemical and oil storage, and dust-generating process areas that may be Zone 21. The operator, SSAB or Stora Enso, performs and owns the classification, not SAMS. The works' drawings, not a general guide, say which zones apply on a given walkway.
A distributor for Borlänge would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.
Likely candidates are fuel and process gas systems, chemical and oil storage, dust-generating process areas (zone 21). Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Borlänge.
Dala Airport is 8 km south-east with limited services, and Stockholm Arlanda is 214 km away, so many visitors arrive by train or road. Plan equipment delivery by road freight and confirm gate procedures with the site.
Steel works typically involve process gases, fuel gas and oxygen systems, hydraulic oil, coating lines, and dust from coal, ore or scale. The operator defines gas and dust zones, so ask SSAB for its classification drawings and portable-device rules before bringing equipment.
Winters in Borlänge are cold, with January averaging around -1 degrees C, so cold-tolerant batteries and gloved operation matter for outdoor rounds. The IS-04Z1 has a 4,000 mAh battery, but cold performance has not been published for it. Ask for the datasheet before specifying winter use.
