Algeria: rules and approvals
Algerian approval is described as relying largely on international test reports such as EU CE reports, and a local representative is still needed for the application.
A Zone 1 / Zone 21 smartphone for crews in the Hassi Messaoud and Hassi R'Mel fields, the Saharan gas plants and the LNG, refining and petrochemical complexes at Arzew and Skikda. Algeria's official languages are Arabic and Amazigh, so site signage, permits and training material may need translation or bilingual versions for local crews. A hazardous area smartphone distributor in Algeria would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Algeria has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

Algerian approval is described as relying largely on international test reports such as EU CE reports, and a local representative is still needed for the application.
Hassi Messaoud has a hot desert climate with average highs above 40 degrees Celsius from June to September and over 45 degrees in July, so heat dominates equipment and battery planning.
A liquid helium plant was tested at the GL1K LNG facility in Skikda in 2006, showing that Algerian LNG sites also handle helium alongside natural gas liquids.
Certificates are reported to be valid for five years if the device is not modified, take roughly ten weeks to process, and since a March 2026 decree several importers can share one certificate.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Algeria. Classified areas in Algeria fall into two families: the Saharan oil and gas fields and processing hubs at Hassi Messaoud, Hassi R'Mel and In Amenas, and the coastal LNG, refining and petrochemical complexes at Arzew and Skikda. The operator, whether Sonatrach or a joint venture, classifies these areas. SAMS does not, and the device is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21.
A distributor for Algeria would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Algeria.
Hassi Messaoud averages above 40 degrees Celsius for four months and above 45 degrees in July, so check the operating, charging and storage ranges on the datasheet and keep devices out of direct sun and closed vehicles. Confirm any site limits with the operator or contractor.
Arabic and Amazigh are the official languages, and French is also commonly used in business, so manuals and safety notices are often supplied in more than one language. Ask the operator or contractor which languages are required for permits, induction and equipment documentation.
Radio equipment needs homologation by ARPCE, the communications regulator, before import and use, separately from the Ex certificate. Both are in progress for the IS-04Z1 and neither is finished. Confirm the current requirement with Sonatrach or the partner handling procurement, who will also tell you whether French documentation is expected.
