Ankleshwar, in Bharuch district, Gujarat, hosts a large GIDC industrial estate and chemical cluster of about 1,600 hectares. Pollution in the estate is regulated by the Gujarat Pollution Control Board, which asks the industrial association to self-enforce among its member units. This page explains what to look for in a hazardous area mobile phone for Ankleshwar, and where the IS-04Z1 stands against that list today.

A short profile of the site and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
Ankleshwar is about 14 km from Bharuch city, on the Mumbai-Delhi national highway and the Western Railway line.
The Gujarat Pollution Control Board regulates industrial pollution, which can add compliance requirements for plant operators.
Ankleshwar lies 14 kilometres from Bharuch on National Highway 8 between Mumbai and Delhi and on the Western Railway line, which makes road delivery from either direction straightforward.
The state development corporation runs chemical estates at Vapi, Ankleshwar, Panoli, Nandesari and Naroda, and managed 257 estates across Gujarat as of 2008.
Heavy monsoon rain often brings flooding to the Narmada basin, with major floods most recently in 2023, although the damming of the river has largely controlled it.
The Ankleshwar Industrial Association, part of the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation estate, has over 2,000 industries registered, so a single estate holds a very large number of separate operators.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Ankleshwar. Classified areas include chemical reactors and solvent areas, dye and dye intermediate plants, pesticide manufacturing and pharmaceutical bulk drug solvent handling. The unit operator classifies them. The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation is listed as a regulator, but SAMS does not classify areas, so ask each plant.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.
Likely candidates are chemical reactors and solvent areas, dye and dye intermediate plants, pesticide manufacturing, pharmaceutical bulk drug solvent handling. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
Many telecom products now need mandatory testing and certification under the telecom authority's scheme, which started in 2019 and requires an authorised Indian representative. Confirm with your supplier whether the specific handset or radio is covered and what documents they hold.
Rain falls mainly from late June to September with around 800 millimetres a season, and April and May are very hot. Choose sealed, water-resistant devices with a suitable temperature range and check the datasheet figures before purchase.
A managed fleet is useful even for small plants, because it lets a supervisor control apps, updates and lost devices. The estate has many member units of varied size. EMM or MDM enrolment suits that. Confirm with each plant which areas are classified before deploying devices.
