Thailand: infrastructure
The Erawan gas field in the Gulf of Thailand supplies about 20% of the country's gas production, which makes it an important reference point for offshore device and transport planning.
A Zone 1 and Zone 21 handset for the people inside the Thai petrochemical cluster: shift operators on the Map Ta Phut crackers, reliability engineers at Sriracha, jetty and tank farm crews along the Rayong coast, and the safety and IT departments that rule on what passes a gate. Around 79.5% of crude oil supply is imported; domestic oil production peaked in 2016 at 486,000 barrels a day, so port, tank farm and pipeline terminals handle much of the flow. Distribution partners for Thailand are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Thailand has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Thailand. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

The Erawan gas field in the Gulf of Thailand supplies about 20% of the country's gas production, which makes it an important reference point for offshore device and transport planning.
Gas supply is topped up with LNG imports and pipeline gas from Myanmar (6.2 and 7.8 billion cubic metres respectively in 2018), so LNG regasification and receiving stations are part of the hazardous-area picture.
Natural gas makes up about 27% of Thailand's total energy supply and fuels roughly 64% of electricity generation, so gas processing, pipelines and power plants dominate classified-area work.
The transport sector uses nearly half of oil products and oil is 41% of total energy supply, so fuel depots, filling terminals and distribution sites occur across the whole country.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Thailand. Thai classified areas cluster in one corridor: Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, the Rayong estates, Sriracha in Chonburi and the wider EEC, with offshore platforms in the Gulf and older plants along the Chao Phraya. The operator classifies each area. SAMS does not classify any area.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Thailand. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.

Yes, because tropical heat and humidity put stress on batteries and seals. Check the maximum ambient rating on the certificate, the water and dust ingress rating and how the device behaves in direct sun. Spare batteries are typically worthwhile on long outdoor shifts.
The Gulf of Thailand, with 34 active petroleum projects across 47 fields as of March 2024, including the Erawan field. Crew change and supply bases on the coast also hold classified areas. Confirm each platform's rules with its operator and helicopter or boat provider.
IP68 sealing and a rugged build are the design floor for heavy rain on open pipe racks and humid heat. The certificate ambient range is the compliance figure and is still in progress. Test a unit in the wet season and confirm the range with the site.
