Poland: projects and investment
Solar energy expanded by 51.39% in 2023 and 26.61% in 2024 while hard coal fell 16.96% in 2024, and nuclear power is being introduced, so the types of site are changing.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for the refinery, fertiliser and gas terminal work where Polish teams actually meet an explosive atmosphere. PKN Orlen was created in 1999 by merging the state fuel retailer CPN with Petrochemia Płock, the firm running the Płock refineries, and has since grown into a multinational refiner and gas trader. A hazardous area mobile phone distributor in Poland would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Poland has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Poland. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

Solar energy expanded by 51.39% in 2023 and 26.61% in 2024 while hard coal fell 16.96% in 2024, and nuclear power is being introduced, so the types of site are changing.
The Płock refinery and petrochemical complex is the largest oil refinery in Poland, and Orlen's headquarters are in the same city, with servicing and construction firms clustered around the plant.
Coal use splits into 75.6% for electricity and heat, 14.5% for industry and 9.9% for buildings, so industrial coal consumers beyond power plants also have dust and gas hazards.
Poland produced 78 megatonnes of hard coal and 57 megatonnes of brown coal in 2009, and a plan agreed in September 2020 aims to phase out coal by 2049.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Poland. Polish hazardous areas sit in belts: refining and petrochemicals at Płock and Gdańsk, fertilisers and polymers from Włocławek through Puławy and Kędzierzyn-Koźle to Police, and gas infrastructure around Świnoujście and Baltic Pipe. Upper Silesian coal mining is Group I and is not counted in. Operators classify their own areas.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Poland. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Poland.
Polish is the working language and ATEX instructions are typically expected in the language of the destination country. A Polish-language instruction sheet with certificate pack usually speeds up site acceptance. Ask the operator whether English documents are also accepted for contractors.
Poland is an EU member, so ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU applies to equipment and Directive 1999/92/EC to workplace zoning. Zone 1 and Zone 2 devices should carry CE and Ex markings with instructions in Polish. Operators and mines usually add their own approval rules.
The gas marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4, and Zone 21 dust protection belongs to the same programme, so one device is designed to cover both. Certification is in progress, so confirm the final marking and the plant's zone drawing with the operator.
