Hazardous Area Mobile Phone Distributor in Oman

The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, aimed at the field operators, technicians, inspection engineers and HSE teams who work inside Oman’s classified areas. Petroleum Development Oman delivers most of the country's crude and gas, owned 60 percent by the government, 34 percent by Shell, 4 percent by TotalEnergies and 2 percent by Partex. A hazardous area mobile phone distributor in Oman would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.

More about Oman that matters for portable equipment

Oman: logistics and access

The Port of Salalah, managed by APM Terminals, is a major transshipment hub, and the adjacent Salalah Free Zone is developing heavy industry.

Oman: background

The first economic oil find came in 1962 at Yibal, and the first oil consignment was exported in 1967.

Oman: infrastructure

Oman completed shutdown of its 3G networks in July 2025 and upgraded to 4G and 5G, which matters for choosing phone models and connectivity.

Oman: geography and layout

Duqm, about 550 km from Muscat, hosts a Special Economic Zone with a refinery on 900 hectares and a port, and Duqm Airport opened in 2014.

The term · hazardous area

What “hazardous area” means for a smartphone

A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.

No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.

In Oman. Oman's classified areas run from the interior fields of Block 6 to the Dhofar coast, with industrial clusters at Sohar, Sur (Qalhat) and Duqm. Types include oil and sour gas fields, steam and thermal recovery, LNG and a refinery. The operator classifies each area, and SAMS does not issue zone drawings.

The route · distribution

Distributing the IS-04Z1 in Oman

Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Oman. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.

Operator relationships
Existing supplier registrations or a clear route to them with the main operators and contractors in Oman.
Ex-competent staff
People who understand zone classification, markings and the conditions of a certificate.

And equally important

Service capability
Spares, battery replacement and repair routed through SAMS-approved channels.
Questions · Oman

Frequently asked questions

Can we buy a hazardous area mobile phone in Oman today?

No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.

What does a hazardous area mobile phone in Oman cost?

There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.

Which hazardous areas is the IS-04Z1 designed for?

Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.

Which sites in Oman does this cover?

The market guide for Oman covers Fahud, Yibal, Marmul, Qarn Alam, among others. Site-level pages are linked below.

How do I become a SAMS distributor for Oman?

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Oman.

Which areas have heavy industry?

Muscat's Mina Al Fahal and Rusayl, Salalah's free zone, and the Duqm special economic zone, along with fields in the interior. Each is managed by a different authority.

Who runs Oman's upstream oil and gas?

Petroleum Development Oman handles most crude and gas, with the government holding 60 percent and Shell and others sharing the rest. Other operators run separate blocks. PDO has its own contractor approval system.

Can the IS-04Z1 work with sour gas detection in the south?

It is designed to pair with a personal gas detector over Bluetooth so the two work together. Sour gas developments such as Harweel already require detection as routine, so confirm the pairing and alarm procedure with the operator's HSE team before adding the handset.
