Poland: background
Poland produced 78 megatonnes of hard coal and 57 megatonnes of brown coal in 2009, and a plan agreed in September 2020 aims to phase out coal by 2049.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for the refinery, fertiliser and gas terminal work where Polish teams actually meet an explosive atmosphere. Buyers searching for a hazardous area cell phone supplier for Poland can take the datasheet and the certification schedule for the IS-04Z1 now; supply follows certification.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. A hazardous area cell phone for Poland cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

Poland produced 78 megatonnes of hard coal and 57 megatonnes of brown coal in 2009, and a plan agreed in September 2020 aims to phase out coal by 2049.
Poland's energy sector is the fifth largest in Europe, with an installed electricity capacity of about 61 GW at the end of 2024, so power plants and mines are large sources of classified areas.
In 2020 coal made up 69.5% of national energy production and 68.5% of electricity generation, so coal handling, bunkers and mills create combustible dust zones at many power sites.
PKN Orlen was created in 1999 by merging the state fuel retailer CPN with Petrochemia Płock, the firm running the Płock refineries, and has since grown into a multinational refiner and gas trader.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Poland. Polish hazardous areas sit in belts: refining and petrochemicals at Płock and Gdańsk, fertilisers and polymers from Włocławek through Puławy and Kędzierzyn-Koźle to Police, and gas infrastructure around Świnoujście and Baltic Pipe. Upper Silesian coal mining is Group I and is not counted in. Operators classify their own areas.
Supply of the IS-04Z1 to Poland starts only after certification, through authorised distributors. Until then a buyer can request the datasheet and the written certification schedule, and arrange a safe-area evaluation unit, which puts the site on the list for the right local channel at launch.
The technical specification, marking target and conditions of use, sent by email.
Which certificates are in progress, in what order, and what is still to be confirmed.
Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.
Tell us the site, zone, gas group and quantity so the right authorised distributor can contact you.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.

Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Coal-fired power stations, including large brown coal plants such as Bełchatów, along with coal-using industry, handle bulk fuel that creates dust zones such as Zone 21 and Zone 22. Check that a device's dust group and temperature class match the site classification drawings.
ATEX separates Group I equipment for mining from Group II for surface industries, and underground methane and coal dust conditions differ from surface plant. Check the group marking on any device against the area and the mine operator's own approval procedure.
No. It is designed as Group II surface equipment, and underground coal mining is Group I, with a separate certificate for methane and coal dust. Do not take a Group II device underground. Refineries, fertiliser plants and gas terminals are the intended areas, subject to the site operator's classification.
