Bahrain: rules and approvals
Bahrain's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority issues type approval certificates valid for three years, with test reports based on the EU Radio Equipment Directive, and a Bahraini supplier submits the application.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe handset for people who cross into classified areas in Bahrain every shift: refinery and gas-plant operators, smelter potroom crews, inspection engineers and the HSE and telecoms teams who equip them. Buyers searching for a hazardous area cell phone supplier for Bahrain can take the datasheet and the certification schedule for the IS-04Z1 now; supply follows certification.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. A hazardous area cell phone for Bahrain cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

In 2018 Bapco commissioned a new pipeline to replace more than 70 years of old pipeline infrastructure between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
Since 2023 Bapco Energies groups Bapco with Banagas, Tawseah, Bafco, Tatweer Petroleum and the Tazweed retail company, giving buyers one family of energy operators to approach.
Alba began in 1971 as the first aluminium smelter in the Middle East and now has about 1.6 million tonnes a year of capacity, powered by natural gas.
A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.
No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.
In Bahrain. Bahrain's classified areas sit in two clusters a short drive apart: the Sitra oil and gas complex with Awali field wellheads, and the Askar smelter, Hidd rolling mill and power and desalination plants. Potline carbon and alumina dust sits beside refinery gas, so Zone 21 and Zone 1 both matter. Operators classify these areas, not SAMS.
Nothing can be bought for Bahrain today: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, and SAMS will supply end users through authorised distributors once certificates exist. What a buyer can do now is take the specification, ask for the written certification schedule and arrange a safe-area evaluation, so that the right local channel contacts you at launch.

Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.

Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Yes. Bahrain is low-lying desert with very hot summers and coastal salt exposure, which stress batteries, seals and screens. Choose devices rated for high ambient temperature and store spare batteries in cool, safe areas.
The Bapco Energies group is the main operator, covering the Sitra refinery, gas processing and field operations, with Alba as the large metals user. Contractors usually register with each company's procurement and HSE teams; ask for the current process.
No: Bapco and Alba each run their own approved-vendor and engineering-evaluation process, so national conformity does not guarantee listing. BSMD marking and TRA approval are being pursued and are not finished. Confirm the vendor registration steps with the operator's procurement team, and plan for both timelines.
